I Don’t Wanna Do Song With Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid – Speed Darlington Gives Reasons

Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, a controversial Nigerian rapper, has made a bold statement asserting that he does not know Burna Boy, the Grammy award-winning singer.

He went on to describe Burna Boy as an attention seeker, citing an incident where he filmed a video in the bathroom solely to grab Burna Boy's attention.

These revelations were made during a recent interview with Hip TV. Speed Darlington expressed his disinterest in collaborating with Burna Boy, as well as with other prominent Nigerian artists such as Wizkid and Davido.

He made it clear that he has no intention of pursuing any musical projects with them.

He said, “I don’t wanna do song with Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, none of those names. I’m not interested because tomorrow it will become, ‘We made you.’ You didn’t make me, I was trending before you met me. I didn’t even know you. You made a video to get my attention in a bathroom. So, who know who? I’m talking about Burna. You made a video to get. Who know who? You, come to me. Otherwise, let it fail. I’m not interested.

“I heard the name Burna Boy not too long ago. But I’ve come to realise that has been putting in work for years. It’s just that the industry didn’t recognise him.

“I heard the name Burna Boy, I think 2017/2018. There was a video he made and he was basically giving me a hint; let’s do something. The video so how found me. This was 2017/2018. First of all, I thought he was an American artist. I had no idea who he was.”

Joseph Akinfenwa Donus, widely known as Joeboy, a prominent Nigerian singer, has attributed the rise of young artists in the country to the influence of Grammy-winning superstar Wizkid.

In a recent episode of the Body & Soul audiovisual podcast, Joeboy expressed his belief that Wizkid played a pivotal role in instilling confidence and inspiring young talents to pursue their dreams of stardom at a young age.

Wizkid, through his own journey and remarkable achievements, has become a beacon of hope and a symbol of success for emerging artists in Nigeria.

His rise to global prominence has shattered barriers and proved that age is not a limiting factor in attaining greatness in the music industry.

The ‘Baby’ crooner said, before Wizkid, it was difficult for young artistes to blow early.

Joeboy said he knew he was going to be a star after meeting Wizkid for the first time.

He said, “One thing I really appreciate about Wizkid is that he made young artistes believe that they could pop [hit stardom] at a young age. Before Wiz, if any artiste pop, it was probably at a very later stage in life. But after Wiz young people started coming through.”

In an interview on the latest episode of the Body & Soul podcast, hosted by renowned singer Joeboy, the talented artist recounted a significant moment in his life. Odumodublvck revealed that he had recently been discharged from the hospital following a major surgery in 2022 when his friends informed him that Wizkid had co-signed his song "Picanto," featuring Zlatan Ibile.

He said, “You can hear the way I’m talking? It’s not because of these [teeth] grills, it’s because I did one operation [surgery]. I almost died but God kept me here right now. And the fact that God saved me, everything that was happening after that was not surprising.

“Ask my guys, I was eating baby food for two weeks. Apart from that, there were like sixteen stitches in my mouth, bro. The day Wizkid posted my stuff was the day I was being discharged from hospital.

“I woke up in the morning, I saw a message at 7 am, I saw Machala…And I checked my Instagram, everybody was sending me that Wizkid posted ‘Picanto’. And that was like, the first thing that God used to tell me that, yo, I’m with you, everything that is going to be happening from here onwards, it’s going to be more than what eyes have seen, ears have heard.”

The 'Declan Rice' crooner expressed his gratitude for Wizkid's support, acknowledging the impact it had on his career trajectory.

I Didn’t Put Out My Song With Wizkid Because It Wasn’t Good Enough – Don Jazzy

The Nigerian music industry has seen some of its biggest hits through collaborations between Afrobeats stars.

Don Jazzy, a key player in the Afrobeats scene, has been instrumental in advancing the genre. Recently, the Mavin Records boss disclosed why he didn't release his collaborations with Wizkid.

When asked by a fan about a potential collaboration with Wizkid, Don Jazzy explained that they had worked on two songs together, but they were not up to their standard. The tracks were left in storage somewhere, and the duo decided not to release them.

"I think we did like two songs a while back but we never released it. I think it wasn't good enough. I guess we have those days when you do songs and your people aren't feeling it," Don Jazzy said.

The duo had earlier worked together on the remix of Dr. Sid's smash hit 'Surulere' which also featured Phyno.

"One day, we will be in the studio together and it might happen," Don Jazzy said on the possibility of a new collaboration with the Grammy winner.
