Renowned actor Uzor Arukwe has raised concerns about the practice within the industry regarding how filmmakers select actors for movies. Arukwe highlighted that, instead of prioritizing talent and skill, many actors are chosen based solely on their social media following.

In a recent interview with Pulse, Arukwe emphasized that producers often favor actors with a large online presence, overlooking the importance of acting abilities. While acknowledging that some actors have managed to find success by combining talent with a strong social media presence, he expressed concern over the unfair advantage this trend creates.

Having spent over two decades in the industry, Arukwe reflected on his early struggles as an actor, recalling the emphasis placed on Instagram and Twitter followers. He remarked, "There was a time in this industry when it was mostly about Instagram and Twitter followers... But can he act? That is the question I always ask."

Despite the challenges posed by this trend, Arukwe recognized the success of actors who possess both talent and a significant online following. However, he stressed the importance of prioritizing acting skills over social media metrics in casting decisions.
