Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ reaches new peak on UK official singles chart, while Seyi Vibez’s ‘Chance’ makes debut

‘Calm Down,’ the newest song from Nigerian sensation Rema, has reached a new height in the current edition of the UK official singles chart.

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring Selena Gomez hit a new high of No. 8 in the chart week of January 6-12, 2023, extending its tenure on the chart to 19 weeks.

Burna Boy’s blockbuster song ‘Last Last’ re-enters the chart at No. 53, extending its chart run to 31 weeks.

‘Ku Lo Sa’ by Oxlade re-enters the chart at No. 57 after spending 16 weeks at the top.

Burna Boy makes his second chart appearance with ‘Alone,’ which re-enters at No. 69.

‘People,’ by LaBianca, continues its worldwide run, debuting at No. 92.

Burna Boy’s ‘Alone’ remains at the top of the UK Afrobeats Chart for the third week in a row as it enters its eighth week on the chart.

Fireboy’s ‘Bandana’ ft. Asake falls one position to No. 4, while Ruger’s ‘Asiwaju’ and Wizkid’s ‘2 Sugar’ feat. Ayra Starr remain at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

Kizz Daniel’s ‘Cough’ falls three positions to No. 7, Wizkid’s ‘Wow’ feat. Naira Markey and Skepta falls one spot to No. 8, Zinoleesky’s ‘Personal’ falls one spot to No. 9, and Mavin’s ‘Won Da Mo’ falls one spot to No. 10.

BNXN’s ‘Omo Elewa’ premieres at position 13, while Seyi Vibez’s ‘Chance’ debuts at position 19.

At the 2022 Headies Awards, Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Olamide have all received nominations.

The big four as they are collectively referred to, are joined on the nomination list by other artists whose music stood out in the year in view.

On Tuesday 1st of March, 2022, the Headies awards founder and Executive Producer Ayo Animashaun announced that the 2022 Headies will be leaving the shores of Nigeria. The 15th installment of the biggest prize in Nigerian music is set to hold on 4th September 2022 in Atlanta Georgia. The announcement sparked debate and reignited interest in what is likely to be the most keenly contested Headies award yet.

On 22nd May 2022, Ayo Animashaun announced via his private Twitter account that the nomination list for the 2022 Headies award will be revealed on Tuesday 24th May 2022. The announcement had fans guessing which of the numerous materials released in the year in view will make the nomination list.

Unsurprisingly, Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Olamide have all scored nominations at the 2022 Headies Awards. Their nominations shouldn't come as a surprise to music fans as they all released materials in the year in view and enjoyed wide success.

The big four as they are collectively referred to are joined on the nomination list by other artists whose music stood out in the year in view.

The full 2022 Headies nomination list is set to drop in a few hours.

Wizkid and Tems Bag 5 Respective Nominations At The 2021 Soul Train Awards

This year's award will hold on November 20, 2021 at the Apollo Theatre, and it will be hosted by Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell.

On November 2, 2021, Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar, Wizkid, bagged five nominations at the 2021 Soul Train Awards. His partner-in-Essence, Tems also bagged four.

Wizkid's and Tems' nominations come in the Song of The Year, Video of The Year, The Ashford and Simpson songwriter’s award and Best Collaboration for the groundbreaking single, 'Essence'. 

Wizkid then bags a nomination for Album of The Year, for Made in Lagos,  while Tems bags another nomination for Best New Artist.

It's been a stellar year for both artists. Wizkid has coasted with his fourth album while Tems has also featured on a Drake record.

Wizkid Reveals Justin Bieber Reached Out To Him For The Remix Of ‘Essence’

Wiz says he had Bieber have made more music together.

Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has revealed that Justin Bieber reached out to him for the remix of his hit record ‘Essence’.

Wizkid had Bieber on the remix of his successful record ‘Essence’, which is off his 2020 album ‘Made in Lagos’.

Bieber’s appearance on the record has further driven the song up the Billboard Hot 100 Chart-the remix is currently number nine.

Speaking about the remix, Wizkid revealed that it was Bieber that reached out to him.

He reached out to me and he loved the record. He sent the verse and it was just fire,” Wizkid told American entertainment media platform, Complex.

We linked up and we performed it together. We got some more music together as well.

Bieber was excited when he jumped on the remix, taking to his social media to thank Wiz for letting him be on the ‘song of the summer’

He also went ahead to create his video for his verse and brought out Wizkid to perform the song  on his set at Made in America.

Wizkid has broken several records with the record ‘Essence’, which also features Nigerian singer Tems.

In July, it became the first Nigerian song to crack the Billboard Hot 100 chart and rose to top-20. In September, it topped the Billboard Hip Hop and R&B chart and in October became the first Nigerian song to be certified platinum in the United States.
