Actress Wofai Fada confidently asserted on Monday that her marriage to Taiwo Cole is meant to last. Through an Instagram post on Monday, she shared traditional wedding photos of herself and Taiwo, who hails from the distinguished Cole family of Victoria Island, Lagos, expressing gratitude to her team.
However, the announcement of their union over the weekend stirred controversy due to conflicts between Wofai Fada and the Cole family. Despite the couple's decision to tie the knot, the Cole family claimed ignorance of the marriage and denied giving consent or support.
In a statement circulated by family patriarch Kunle Cole on Sunday, the Cole family disavowed the marriage, asserting that they were unaware of any wedding plans involving their son Taiwo Olakitan Cole and did not authorize or endorse it.
This situation has ignited diverse reactions on social media. Some individuals support the family's stance, while others argue that the marriage should proceed regardless of the family's objections.
Matthew Adavize, for instance, emphasized the importance of respecting parents, while Alwell Chinekezi highlighted the significance of traditional marriage customs. Akinwole Akinsola encouraged the couple to prove detractors wrong by making their union successful, while Flora Henny suggested that Wofai Fada should mend fences with her husband's family before proceeding with the marriage to avoid misunderstandings and disrespect.
