Governor Akeredolu Of Ondo State Dares Buhari, Set To Sign Anti-Open Grazing Bill Into Law

Following the move to curb insecurity in Ondo State as well as cases of classes between farmers and herders, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will today sign the anti-open grazing bill into law.

The move by the governor was a pointer that he was unperturbed by the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari that 368 grazing sites across the 25 states of the country should be reviewed.

The Governor's move is in line with the resolution of the Southern Governors Forum at its meeting n Lagos on July 5, 2021.

Passed by the State House of Assembly on July 2, 2021, the bill was designed to regulate security, rearing and grazing of livestock.

It will also see to the establishment of ranches in the state

as well as prevent the destruction of farm crops in the state and also address clashes between herders and farmers in the state.

Ondo State Government Imposes A 24-Hour Curfew On Ikare-Akoko

Ondo State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Ikare-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government Area of the State as a result of the violent clashes in the town over a chieftaincy title.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, DONALD OJOGO via a statement issued, noting that the curfew takes immediate effect.

He said the state Government has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities relating to the Olokoja chieftaincy title.

According to him, no one is permitted to parade himself as Olokoja, or engage in promotional activities relating to the title in question.

He warned that anyone who violates or contravenes this order shall face the full wrath of the Law as dire consequences await such defaulters.

Governor Akeredolu Suspends Transport Unions In Ondo State

Governor Akeredolu Orders Road Transport Employees To Vacate Motor Parks.

Ondo state government has suspended the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) with immediate effect.

The government has also directed taxi drivers to revert to the old rate of N50 per drop.

DOYIN ODEBOWALE, senior special assistant to the governor on special duties and strategy, who made the announcement in Akure attributed the suspension to the recent crisis within the unions over leadership tussles.

He directed the leadership of both NURTW and RTEAN to vacate motor parks across the 18 local government areas of the state and to stop collecting money from taxi drivers and other motorists.

Ondo Govt Arraigns 4 Suspected Killers of Funke Olakurin

Ondo State government has arraigned four men suspected to have killed Mrs FUNKE OLAKUNRIN, the daughter of the National Leader of Afenifere, Pa REUBEN FASORANTI.

They were brought before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Those arraigned include; LAWAL MAZAJE from the Felele area of Kogi State, ADAMU ADAMU from Jada area of Adamawa State, MOHAMMED USMAN from Illela area of Sokoto State, and AUWAL ABUBAKAR from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State.

They were brought to the court by security operatives, one week after the police announced their arrest in a statement.

Mrs. FUNKE OLAKUNRIN was killed by suspected robbers on Friday July 12, 2019 while travelling along Kajola on the Benin-Ore Expressway.
