As of the Tuesday plenary, the deputy governor had not responded to the allegations. Majority Leader Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi motioned for the Chief Judge to convene the panel, which Felix Afe seconded.

Speaker Olamide Oladiji confirmed Aiyedatiwa's failure to address the allegations, noting that the deputy governor's Chief Protocol Officer had received the notice on his behalf.

In a recent development, the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Ondo State House of Assembly from impeaching Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa based on allegations of gross misconduct.

This decision came after Aiyedatiwa's counsel, Kayode Adewusi, presented an ex-parte motion.

Furthermore, the court also directed Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to refrain from nominating a new deputy governor and submitting the nomination to the lawmakers for approval until the substantive matter is heard and determined.

Justice Emeka Nwite, after considering Adewusi's arguments, concluded that granting the application would serve the interests of justice. He stated, "Therefore, the application of the applicant succeeds."

It's worth noting that the embattled deputy governor had filed a motion on notice against the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services, Governor Akeredolu, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Chief Judge of Ondo State, and the House of Assembly as respondents.

The application, dated September 21 and filed by Mr Adelanke Akinrata, sought four specific reliefs. In addition to the restraining order against Governor Akeredolu, the court issued an interim injunction preventing harassment, intimidation, or interference with Aiyedatiwa's official duties as deputy governor.

Justice Nwite granted all the requested reliefs and scheduled the next hearing for October 9. In a parallel move, Aiyedatiwa has also filed a suit in the High Court in Akure, seeking to halt the state's House of Assembly from proceeding with the impeachment process until his case in the court is heard and determined.

Ondo Assembly Serves Deputy Gov Impeachment Notice

Ondo State Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has filed a suit at the Ondo State High Court to halt the State’s House of Assembly’s impeachment proceedings against him.

He urged the court to grant an injunction stopping the House of Assembly from initiating, continuing, or proceeding with the process of his removal from office.

The Ondo Assembly, last week, wrote to Aiyedatiwa to answer issues raised in a petition signed by nine lawmakers.

The petition included inquiries into Aiyedatiwa’s attempt to procure a bulletproof Vehicle For The Sum Of N300 Million During Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s medical absence.

In the suit filed yesterday, September 25, Aiyedatiwa seeks a declaration that the House of Assembly is not competent to proceed with his impeachment in breach of his constitutional and fundamental rights to a fair hearing.

He prayed the court to declare that his office, tenure, status, rights, and privileges were protected, guaranteed, and secured by the Constitution.

The Ondo State House of Assembly has taken steps towards possibly removing Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa amidst allegations of serious misconduct.

It has come to light that Aiyedatiwa is under investigation for purportedly authorizing N300 million to acquire a bulletproof SUV for personal use while in office as the acting governor.

Aiyedatiwa assumed the role of acting governor during Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's absence for medical treatment, serving from June 13th to September 9th until the governor's return.

During the recent plenary session, the Assembly introduced a petition against Aiyedatiwa, which had garnered the signatures of nine out of the 17 members of the House. Speaker Olamide Oladiji presided over the session.

The Majority Leader of the House, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, cited Section 188 of the constitution in support of his proposal that the Assembly summon the deputy governor to address the allegations against him. This motion received a second from Tope Agbulu, the Akoko South-West Constituency 2 representative.

Consequently, the House instructed Clerk Benjamin Jaiyeola to invite Aiyedatiwa for further proceedings.
