Ibadan Explosion: 230 Properties Undergoing Integrity Test – Seyi Makinde

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has said that about 230 properties at the old Bodija, Ibadan, explosion site are now undergoing structural integrity tests.

They include 13 houses within a 50-metre radius of the explosion site, 40 houses within a 100-metre radius, 122 houses within a 200-metre radius, and 53 houses within a 250-metre radius.

While disclosing that operations at ground zero of the explosion site had moved from search and rescue to recovery, Makinde reiterated that investigations are still ongoing and that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

The Governor also thanked the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), which has been conducting structural integrity tests on properties around the explosion site.

He equally thanked Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for releasing the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to help in the operations and for the assistance offered by the team led by Engineer Olatunde Akinsanya, the Director of Operations.

A funeral service for the late Rotimi Akeredolu, former governor of Ondo State, is scheduled for February 23, 2024, as per the funeral timetable released by the Akeredolu family on Monday evening.

The ceremony will commence at 10 a.m. with a funeral service at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Cathedral on Imola Street in Owo. Following the service, the interment will promptly occur at the burial site in Owo, with attendance limited to the immediate family.

Rotimi Akeredolu died on December 27, 2023, after bravely battling illness.

Acknowledging the overwhelming support received during this challenging time, the Akeredolu family expresses profound gratitude to everyone who has extended warmth and compassion. In celebrating the remarkable life of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, the family is grateful for the outpouring of love, which has been nothing short of overwhelming.

16 Killed, Four Injured In Kaduna Road Accident

Sixteen people were killed and four others injured in a road accident that occurred in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The accident in the Tashar Yari area involved a bus that left Kano en route to Markudi in Benue State.

A statement by the Kaduna State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kabir Nadabo, attributed the accident to over-speeding that led to the driver losing control of the steering and ramming into a ditch.

He said that an initial investigation of the crash revealed that 20 people were involved, with 16 dead.

Four others were injured and were rushed to Makarfi General Hospital for medical attention.

Margaret Adeyeye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, attributed the destructive fire that engulfed the well-known Mandalas Building on Lagos Island to a spark originating from welding activities. The 10-storey structure on Broad Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area fell victim to the flames yesterday.

Adeyeye, in an earlier statement, revealed that emergency responders from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations were swiftly dispatched to the location. Addressing journalists at the scene, she provided insights into how the fire was initiated.

During the coverage of the incident, another government official named Gbenga Oyerinde expressed concern over the alteration of the original layout of the area. Lamenting the changes, Oyerinde shared his views at the site of the fire.
