May 5, 2024 Lagos Issues 48-Hour Eviction Notice to Squatters in Ikoyi Towers

The Lagos State Government has issued a 48-hour eviction notice to unauthorized occupants of the derelict Ikoyi Towers located in Lagos Island.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced the notice during a site inspection that included the Ikoyi Towers, a property owned by the Federal Government. Wahab highlighted the presence of illegal occupants in the abandoned building, which he described as a security threat to the environment and a nuisance to the state.

The inspection also revealed stagnant water bodies in the canal in Ebutte Elefun – Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, along with illegal structures and business activities such as block and cement molding near the fence of Ebutte Elefun High School. The government has instructed the removal of these violations.

This move is part of the government's ongoing efforts to address flooding and ensure public safety. Recently, the government took action to clear illegal structures in under-bridge apartments where occupants were paying rents as high as N250,000 annually.
