May 6, 2024 Ikeja DisCo slashes Band A tariff to N206.80/kwh

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has announced a reduction in the tariff payable by its Band A customers, lowering it to N206.80 per kilowatt-hour from the previously approved N225/kWh by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

This update was conveyed by IKEDC spokesperson Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion in a notice issued on Monday.

Effective from today Monday, May 6, 2024, the downward tariff adjustment for Band A customers will come into effect. IKEDC has assured these customers of a minimum of 20-hour daily power supply through Band A feeders while clarifying that the tariffs for customers on other bands will remain unchanged.

In a statement addressed to their esteemed customers, IKEDC stated, "Dear Esteemed Customers, please be informed of the downward tariff review of our Band A feeders from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh effective 6th May 2024 with guaranteed availability of 20-24hrs supply daily. The tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged."

It is noteworthy that on April 3, NERC revised the electricity tariff for Band A customers from N68 per kilowatt-hour to N255/kWh, with other customer bands unaffected by the tariff adjustment. Since the implementation of the supplementary Multi-Year Tariff Order, Band A consumers have expressed concerns about the financial burden imposed by the increased electricity tariffs, urging the Federal Government to reconsider the policy.

During an investigative hearing before the Senate Committee on Power last week Monday, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu cautioned that failure to implement the electricity tariff hike could lead to a nationwide blackout within the next three months.
