Atletico Beat Getafe 3-0 In Season Opener

Alvaro Morata struck twice to secure Atletico Madrid a 3-0 victory at Getafe in their opening game of the La Liga season on Monday.

Morata, who has returned to Atletico after two years on loan with Juventus, scored a goal in each half before Antoine Griezmann wrapped up the points.

Joao Felix played a key role by setting up all three goals, the first of which Morata swept home from the edge of the box on 15 minutes.

Borja Mayoral grazed the crossbar for Getafe late in the first half, but Morata eased Atletico nerves with a clinical finish on the hour following an error by Stefan Mitrovic.

Felix then threaded the ball through for Griezmann, who cut inside and drove low into the corner to ensure Atletico made a winning start following the departure of Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan rejoined his boyhood club Nacional on a short-term deal in July after his contract expired at Atletico.

Barcelona Suffer Shock Home Defeat To Cadiz

Barcelona suffered a shock home La Liga defeat by relegation-threatened Cadiz to leave leaders Real Madrid closer to clinching the Spanish title.

The visitors began the day in the bottom three but Lucas Perez poked in from close range just after half-time to boost their survival prospects.

This was Barca's first La Liga loss since 4 December, ending a 15-match unbeaten league run.

Second-placed Barca trail Real Madrid by 15 points with seven games left.

Any hopes the Catalans retained of derailing their great rivals' bid for a 35th top-flight title were slim before the visit of Cadiz, but this result will serve as a reminder of the gulf between Spain's dominant teams.

Barca have been resurgent under Xavi since his appointment as manager in November and even thrashed the league leaders 4-0 at the Bernabeu last month.

But the Nou Camp club have endured a chastening week, with this defeat coming five days after they were beaten at home by Eintracht Frankfurt and eliminated from the Europa League semi-finals.

January's Premier League signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore were left out of the starting XI against Cadiz before being brought on as the home side sought an equaliser, but the visitors held firm.

Victory takes Cadiz two points clear of the relegation zone with six matches left.

Barcelona Continue Impressive Form After Getting A Late Win Against Levante

Barcelona have maintained their excellent La Liga form with a remarkable win as they came from behind to beat a Levante side awarded three second-half penalties in the pulsating encounter.

The game was immediately off to a flying start after the interval when Levante defender Son was fouled by Dani Alves, allowing Jose Luis Morales to convert from the spot.

Four minutes later the home side were handed a second penalty after Eric Garcia handballed, only for striker Roger to fail to slot home the spot kick and play right at Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The Blaugrana swiftly responded, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang heading in a superb Ousmane Dembele cross before two substitutes combined as youngsters Gavi teed up Pedri for a sweeping finish.

Ter Stegen's save had offered a chance for Barca to turn the game and be in control but he faced a third penalty after Maxi Gomez was fouled by Clement Lenglet - who had been on the field for less than two minutes - and this time substitute Gonzalo Melero made no mistake and sent the keeper the wrong way to level.

Levante - seven points from safety - looked to have earned a deserved point but Luuk de Jong headed home Jordi Alba's cross in added time, making him the third substitute to score in an incredible second half.

Barca remain the most in-form team in Europe's top-five leagues on a run of 11 wins and four draws from their last 15 La Liga outings.

Barcelona Beats Sevilla To Go Second In La Liga

Pedri scored a brilliant second-half goal as Barcelona beat Sevilla to move up to second in La Liga and keep their title hopes alive.

After a goalless first half, the 19-year-old midfielder showed great composure on the edge of the box to thump a shot into the bottom corner.

Sevilla had a penalty shout in the first half when Anthony Martial's shot hit Ronald Araujo's arm.

But Barcelona were the better side as Gerard Pique also hit the post.

Defender Pique, though, was perhaps fortunate not to be sent off late on as he pulled back Jesus Corona, who looked set to run clear on goal.

But Barcelona held out to take a crucial three points and extend their unbeaten run to 14 games. They are now 12 points behind leaders Real Madrid with a game in hand.

Sevilla had started the day in second place, but dropped to fourth, behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid on goal difference, as their own 15-game run without defeat came to an end.
