David Alaba Scores First Madrid Goal In El Classico

Real Madrid beat Barcelona in a new-look El Clasico to briefly go top of La Liga and leave Ronald Koeman's side down in eighth in the table.

It was the very first Clasico without Barca Legend Lionel Messi or Real icon Sergio Ramos - who both joined Paris St-Germain in the summer - since 2004.

David Alaba started and finished a counter-attack for the first, which was his first goal in a Madrid shirt and Lucas Vazquez got a second in added time.

Sergio Aguero scored his first Barca goal but it was almost the last kick.

Alaba's goal was the best of the game. The former Bayern Munich defender won the ball from Barca striker Memphis Depay on the edge of his box before starting a counter-attack.

He finished it off by running on to Rodrygo's pass before slamming a shot across home keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen into the far corner.

The final two goals came in injury time with Vazquez tapping in after Marco Asensio's shot was saved by Ter Stegen.

Substitute Aguero tapped in Sergino Dest's cross, in what was only Barcelona's second shot on target, but the final whistle went seconds later.

Madrid ended the day one point behind Real Sociedad at the top after the Basque side drew Sunday's late game 2-2 with Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid Suffer Second Straight Home Defeat

Leaders Real Madrid lost their first game in La Liga this season as they were beaten at Espanyol.

Raul de Tomas gave the hosts a 17th-minute lead when he met Adrian Embarba's low cross into the box.

Aleix Vidal added an excellent second, beating Nacho before firing past Thibaut Courtois on the hour mark.

Karim Benzema responded for Real with a fine finish into the bottom corner with 19 minutes left, but Carlo Ancelotti's side could not find a late equaliser.

It is a second loss in a week for Real, who suffered a shock Champions League defeat by competition debutants Sheriff Tiraspol on Tuesday.

Ancelotti's side are now winless in three games after being held to a goalless draw against Villarreal in their previous league outing.

Marco Asensio Bags Hat-Trick as Madrid Thrash Mallorca

Marco Asensio scored a superb hat-trick as Real Madrid reclaimed top spot in La Liga with an emphatic victory over Mallorca at the Bernabeu.

Asensio scored twice in five first-half minutes – either side of Lee Kang-in’s well-taken response for the visitors.

The Spaniard found the bottom corner to make it 4-1 10 minutes after half-time.

Karim Benzema had opened the scoring after three minutes and added a late fifth for Real, before Isco completed a 6-1 rout with six minutes remaining.

Atletico Madrid had moved top following a 2-1 win against Getafe on Tuesday and now sit two points behind Carlo Ancelotti’s side – with both teams unbeaten after six games.

Ronald Araujo Rescues Late Point as Granada Hold Barcelona

Defender Ronald Araujo came to Barcelona’s rescue with a last-gasp equaliser to deny lowly Granada a second successive La Liga victory at the Nou Camp.

Araujo struck in the final minute of normal time amid a concerted flurry to cancel out Domingos Duarte’s early opener and spare his side’s blushes as the game finished 1-1.

The home crowd had been stunned into silence within two minutes of kick-off when Duarte headed Sergio Escudero’s corner past keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and into the net.

Jorge Molina went close to a second for the visitors, but Sergi Roberto was denied at the other end by the crossbar and Memphis Depay failed to round off a quick break as the Catalan giants turned the screw.

Araujo, Sergino Dest and substitute Oscar Mingueza all went close with the half-time whistle approaching, but Barca went in at the break still trailing.

Substitute Gerard Pique was thrown into an attacking role as the home side fought desperately for a way back, and it duly arrived in the final minute of the game when Araujo headed them level in the nick of time.
