Samuel Chukwueze was in top form as he returned to Villarreal’s starting XI in their 2-1 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday at the Anoeta Stadium.

The Winger was brought down inside the box, and after a review by VAR, the Referee reversed his initial “NO Penalty” decision.

Manu Trigueros converted from the spot during the 58th minute to level the scores before substitute Santi Cazorla scored in the 72nd minute what proved to be the winner.

Chukwueze, 20, impressed with a 7.0 rating, registering a shot and completing two dribbles – only Martin Odegaard completed more dribbles (5).

Chukwueze ends La Liga goal drought in Villarreal defeat

Nigerian international, Samuel Chukwueze ended his six-game goal drought in La Liga with a goal in Villarreal’s 3-1 loss to Celta Vigo.

Chukwueze, who last scored a league goal on September 27 against Real Betis, cancelled out Pione Sisto’s opener in the 59th minute after he was played through on goal by Xavi Quintilla.

The effort increased the 20-year-old’s tally to three goals after 13 league outings in the Spanish top-flight this term.

His equalizer was not enough for Villarreal to grab their first win since October 25 as Iago Aspas’ brace condemned them to defeat.

Chukwueze was in action from start to finish alongside Cameroon’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa while Karl Toko Ekambi was on parade for 77 minutes.

Villarreal dropped to 12th on the table with 18 points after 14 matches while Celta Vigo is placed 18th with 12 points.

CAN CHUKWUEZE BE A THORN IN THE FLESH FOR BARCELONA?

Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze, and his Villarreal teammates will be aiming to compound the woes of Barcelona on Tuesday (today) in La Liga when they face the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou, Sports Extra reports.

The Spanish champions suffered a 2-0 loss at Granada on Saturday night to stay in eighth position in the table – one spot and one point behind Villarreal, who have made a solid start to the 2019-20 campaign.

Barca’s loss at Granada on Saturday means the Spanish champions have made their worst start to a league season for 25 years and Chukwueze, who has scored once and provided an assist in four La Liga games, will be looking forward to adding to his tally in the encounter.

The last clash between Villarreal and Barca finished 4-4 at the Estadio de la Ceramica last season with the 20-year-old a thorn in the flesh of the Catalan giants, scoring one and providing an assist in the eight-goal thriller.

Should Chukwueze score a goal, it will be his 10th for Villarreal in 43 games (seventh La Liga goal in 31 games) since he broke into the first team.

Elsewhere, Ramon Azeez will be looking to build on his impressive start in La Liga this season, when Granada travel to the José Zorrilla Stadium, to face Real Valladolid.

Azeez equaled his best goal tally of two in the La Liga this season after scoring barely two minutes as Granada shocked Barcelona with a 2-0 win on Saturday.
