Senate Threatens To Delay Passage Of 2021 Budget

The Senate has threatened to delay the passage of the 2021 budget if the President fails to act on the recent abduction of School children from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina state.

The Upper chamber has also summoned the Minister of Defence, the service chiefs, and heads of the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Service over the unending insecurity situation in the country.

The resolution followed a motion moved by Senator BELLO MANDIYA from Katsina State on the abduction of the students by unknown bandits.

The red chamber also urged the President to implement the report of the Senate Committee on Security challenges without further delay.

They also expressed deep frustration that BUHARI had consistently ignore all resolutions passed by the Senate on the issue of insecurity in the country.

Buhari says he is under pressure to release ministerial list

President BUHARI has admitted that he had been under unprecedented pressure to release the names of his ministerial-nominees.

The President, who made a brief remark during a dinner he had with the leadership of the National Assembly, however, maintained that he would not be stampeded into releasing the list.

He stated that when he first came into office in 2015, majority of ministerial appointees were not known to him personally.

Senate President, AHMAD LAWAN had told his colleagues at plenary on Wednesday that the Ministerial list will get to the senate before the end of the week.

In 2015, during the first tenure of the President, it took him about six months to release the list of ministerial nominees.
