‘No Plan To Increase Fuel Price,’ IPMAN, NNPCL Warn Against Panic Buying

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has denied having any disputes with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL over a possible hike in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol.

The clarifications followed reports that fuel marketers had clashed with the NNPCL over the payment of subsidy and increment of fuel to 1,200 Naira per litre.

In a monitored interview, the National Vice President, IPMAN, Hammed Fashola said his association had not engaged the NNPCL in any discussion, either on petrol subsidy removal or price adjustment.

He, however, lamented the challenges that the marketers encounter at the depots.

Fashola appealed to the NNPCL to expand their operations at the depots to boost availability of products to the marketers.

The NNPC also denied having any rift with the marketers on the matter, with its spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye insisting that subsidy had been entirely removed on petrol.

Public Office Ban: Buhari’s Ex-Minister, Tallen, Appeals Judgment

Former Minister of Women Affairs, in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Pauline Tallen, has approached the Court of Appeal in Abuja, seeking to set aside the judgment of an FCT high court which barred her from holding public office.

Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court had on Dec. 18 barred Tallen in a case filed against her by the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) over her alleged “disparaging” comment against an earlier court judgement.

In a Notice of Appeal filled through her lawyer, JK Gadzama, she formulated 13 grounds of appeal against the trial court’s decision.

She also prayed the appellate court to, among other reliefs, dismiss the suit and set aside the decision of the court.

Tallen’s battle with the NBA began when she, as the serving Minister of Women Affairs, criticized the nullification of Senator Aisha Dahiru’s initially declared victory at the Adamawa governorship polls.

While Justice Abdulaziz Anka, nullified Dahiry’s victory on account of non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022, Nigeria’s constitution, and the APC’s guidelines, Tallen had described the ruling as a Kangaroo judgment, whose aim was the marginalization of women in Nigerian politics.
