Akume Leads As FG Inaugurates Committee On Implementation Of Oronsaye Report

The Federal Government has inaugurated a committee on the implementation of the recommendations on the review of reports and White Papers on Restructuring and Rationalization of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, and Commissions.

The FG had on February 28, 2024, approved the implementation of some of the recommendations to the Stephen Oronsaye Report to reduce the cost of governance.

Approval for the inauguration of a committee that would see to the implementation of the report was granted, and it was given 12 weeks to submit its report.

A statement by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary General of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, said the SGF, George Akume, while inaugurating members of the committee stated that the implementation of the report was to reduce the cost of governance and streamline efficiency across the governance value chain.

Akume outlined the general guidelines of the Committee to include reviewing current mandates to understand the existing functions, responsibilities, and objectives outlined in the mandates of the Agencies.

According to the statement, members of the committee are Akume; Attorney General of the Federation/ Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Minister of Budget & Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, amongst others.

Tinubu Orders Ministers To Implement Only Research-Driven Policies

President Bola Tinubu has directed relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government to ensure that the outcomes of research in science and technology are used to enrich policies that impact the real sector.

President Tinubu issued the directive when he received the President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Ekanem Braide and the fellows of the Academy who paid him a courtesy visit at the State House in Abuja.

Later during his investiture as the Grand Patron of Science by the Academy, the President said the pace of change around the world, reflected in some national and global challenges, requires more reliance on research for solutions and actionable data, especially in health and education.

In her remarks, Braide, amongst others, stressed the need for a national research fund as the country moves towards a knowledge-driven economy.

Tinubu Suspends CEO Of Rea, Salihijo Ahmad, 3 Executive Directors

President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, said the President also suspended three Executive Directors of the agency, saying this is in the light of new findings unearthed during a comprehensive investigation into the financial activities of the Agency.

The three Executive Directors equally suspended are: Olaniyi Alaba Netufo (Corporate Services); Barka Sajou (Technical Services) and Sa’adatu Balgore, the Executive Director at Rural Electrification Fund (REF).

Ngelale in the statement, added that President Tinubu has ordered a wider investigation into the conduct of the aforementioned officials in a fraudulent misexpenditure amounting to over 1.2 billion naira over the last two years, some of which has already been recovered by anti-graft agencies.

Following the suspension, the President appointed new persons to serve in the agency’s new management team in an acting capacity.

They are Abba Abubakar Aliyu as Managing Director/CEO, Ayoade Gboyega as Executive Director of Corporate Services, Umar Abdullahi Umar as Executive Director of Technical Services.

Others are: Doris Uboh as the Executive Director of Rural Electrification Fund (REF) and Olufemi Akinyelure as the Head of Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project.

Kano Government Orders Suspension Of ‘Turbaning’ Of Bichi Emir’s Brother

The Kano state government has instructed the Bichi Emirate council to suspend the turbaning ceremony of Salisu Ado Bayero as a district head within the Emirate.

Salisu is the younger brother of the Bichi Emir, Nasiru Ado Bayero.

In a letter addressed to the secretary of Bichi Emirate and signed by the permanent secretary Ministry for local government, Ibrahim M Kabara, on behalf of Aminu Abdulsalam, the Deputy Governor and also Commissioner overseeing the Ministry, said the exercise should be suspended “due to certain exigencies at the moment”.

Bichi Emirate had on 15 February written to Salisu Ado Bayero informing him of the emir’s approval for appointment as Title holder/district head in Bichi.

The letter directed the prince to come to the palace on Friday March 1 for his turbaning as district head.
