Messi Scores 650th Barcelona Goal In Victory Against Bilbao

Lionel Messi scored his 650th goal for Barcelona with a wonderful free-kick as they beat Athletic Bilbao to move up to second in La Liga.

Athletic had a five-man wall, a player lying behind the wall and another on the line but Messi still managed to curl the ball into the top corner - his 49th free-kick goal for the club.

Athletic were level when Jordi Alba turned a cross into his own net.

But Antoine Griezmann slammed in the winner from Oscar Mingueza's pass.

Barcelona move above Real Madrid on goal difference, but the rivals both sit 10 points behind Atletico Madrid - who have a game in hand on both sides and who defeated Cadiz earlier in the day.

Ronald Koeman's side seem to be over their dreadful start to the season with eight wins and two draws in their past 10 La Liga games.

Barcelona's day ended better than it started, with the club denying leaking details of Messi's contract to El Mundo.

The club plan legal action after the Spanish newspaper published details of his £492m contract.

Felix, Suarez Fire Atletico Seven Points Clear In La Liga

Joao Felix and Luis Suarez combined as Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat Valencia to continue their pursuit of the La Liga title.

Valencia took a shock lead in the 11th minute with a long-range strike from Uros Racic but the league leaders responded when Felix stuck out a foot to prod home from a corner.

Felix then released Suarez for a second after the break.

Substitute Angel Correa added a third to seal a seventh league win in a row.

Atletico now lead nearest challengers Real Madrid, who beat Alaves on Saturday, by seven points with a game in hand.

Real Madrid Go Level With Atletico Atop La Liga

Goals from Casemiro and Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid a win over Granada to take them level on points with leaders Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.

After a poor first half, Real took the lead when Casemiro headed in from Marco Asensio's cross from the left.

Benzema sealed the victory in second-half injury time with a low strike from 20 yards out for his eighth La Liga goal of the season.

Granada's best chance fell to Antonio Puertas but he shot over early on.

That chance came after only 28 seconds when, after Real had kicked off, Raphael Varane lost possession and ex-Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado set up Puertas, but, unmarked, he fired wastefully over.

The one negative for Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid was a first-half injury to Rodrygo that saw the 19-year-old Brazilian winger carried off on a stretcher with a hamstring injury.

This was their sixth successive win in all competitions and their fifth in a row in La Liga to join leaders Atletico on 32 points, although Real have played two games more than their city rivals

Real Madrid Level At Top After Win At Eibar

Real Madrid beat Eibar to record a fourth straight La Liga win and keep pace with leaders Atletico Madrid.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring with his seventh league goal of the season and then set up Luka Modric as Real scored twice in the opening 13 minutes.

Captain Kike Garcia responded for Eibar with a spectacular curled finish from the edge of the box before half-time.

Both sides had chances in a hard-fought second half, but Lucas Vazquez sealed the points for Real in injury time.

Zinedine Zidane's side moved above second-placed Real Sociedad but have played two games more than leaders Atletico, with the city rivals level on points.

Atletico are away to Real Sociedad in a key game at the top on Tuesday, with Los Blancos facing Granada a day later.
