Inter Milan One Step Closer To First Title Since 2010 After Win Against Verona

Antonio Conte's Inter Milan moved a step closer to winning their first Serie A title since 2010 with a hard-fought victory against Hellas Verona.

Former Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian scored the game's only goal, firing home in the 76th minute after being found by Achraf Hakimi.

The win means Inter are 13 points clear of second-place AC Milan, who play on Monday, with five games remaining.

Defending champions Juventus are third after they were held 1-1 by Fiorentina.

Dusan Vlahovic converted a first-half penalty to give Fiorentina the lead but former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata equalised when he fired into the top corner after spotting the goalkeeper off his line.

Inter Milan edged closer to their first Scudetto since 2010 with a 1-1 draw at Spezia that took them 10 points clear at the top of Serie A.

Diego Farias' early goal put the hosts in front but Ivan Perisic levelled for Antonio Conte's side.

Earlier on Wednesday, AC Milan's hopes of catching their city rivals were dented by a 2-1 home loss to Sassuolo.

Meanwhile, Juventus came from behind to beat struggling Parma 3-1 and boost their hopes of a top-four finish.

A double from full-back Alex Sandro helped Andrea Pirlo's side recover after Gaston Brugman's opener before Matthijs de Ligt rounded off the scoring.

Matteo Darmian was the unlikely hero as Inter Milan beat Cagliari to extend their Serie A lead to 11 points.

The former Manchester United full-back tapped home Achraf Hakimi's cross with 14 minutes remaining to seal an 11th successive victory.

Strugglers Cagliari had frustrated Inter who saw defender Stefan de Vrij head against the bar after 68 minutes.

Antonio Conte's side now require 16 points from eight games to win their first league title since 2009-10.

AC Milan are second, with Juventus - who have won the past nine titles - one point behind them after a 3-1 win over Genoa.

Dejan Kulusevski gave Andrea Pirlo's side the lead with a clever finish and Alvaro Morata made it 2-0 after Cristiano Ronaldo hit the post.

Gianluca Scamacca headed in for Genoa but Weston McKennie slotted home to make the game safe.
