953,803 PVCs Still Uncollected In Lagos, Says INEC/ VOXPOP

The Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, says over fifty thousand Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs have been collected within a few days in the state.

Agbaje, who expressed satisfaction with the process so far, spoke while inspecting the distribution of PVCs in some polling units in Ikoyi and Victoria Island.

But, at Ward 2, Kuramo Secondary School centre in Victoria Island, most of the intending voters who spoke with Correspondent Nifesimi Olabiyi said they were experiencing difficulties with the process of collection.

Agbaje however assured residents that arrangements have been made to fast track the process.

INEC Has No Plans To Postpone 2023 Elections – Yakubu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that the 2023 elections will hold as scheduled.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stated at yesterday’s meeting with political in Abuja.

He insisted that the elections would go ahead as the commission neither considers postponement nor cancellation.

In attendance at the meeting were leaders of the All Progressives Congress, the People’s Democratic Party, the Labour Party, and the New Nigeria People’s Party, amongst others.

93.4m Persons Eligible To Vote, Says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said there are 93.46 million registered voters in Nigeria.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stated this while presenting the data of registered voters to political parties in Abuja.

The new list shows that out of the 93.46 million registered voters, the Northwest has the highest number of 22.25 million followed by the Southwest with 17.95 million while the Southeast has the least number with 10.9 million eligible voters.

However, state-wise, Lagos leads with 7.06 million followed by Kano with 5.92 million, and Kaduna with 4.35 million eligible voters.

By gender distribution, male voters are about 49.06 million while female voters are 44.41million.

Also, the youths aged 18 to 34 make up the majority, with 37.6 million representing 39.66 percent of the voters.

In an interview with Inspiration FM, the Executive Director, Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative, Nelson Ekujumi said the total number may not translate to much if all the registrants do not get their PVCs.

Speaking on the total number of youths, Ekujimi said it could be more, but they have not come to the full realization of their influence in the country.

2023: IPAC Accuses Governors Of Promoting Insecurity

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has expressed worries about the rising insecurity in the country ahead of the 2023 election, accusing state governors of promoting violence.

Speaking at a press conference, the IPAC Chairman claimed many governors use sponsored touts to intimidate opposition parties.

He called on security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and their sponsors so they can face justice.

The IPAC leader also said the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to deploy technology in next the elections is in tandem with their stands.

He claimed that INEC’s resolve to deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) among others, attracted attacks to its facilities nationwide and heightened the calls for the removal of its Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
