Inec Fixes Date For Mock Accreditation Ahead Of Bayelsa, Imo And Kogi Governorship Elections

INEC to Conduct Trial Voter Accreditation for Upcoming Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is preparing for a trial voter accreditation ahead of the Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States. According to a statement by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee at INEC, this trial run is set to occur concurrently in the three states on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

Olumekun clarified that this exercise comes after a comprehensive review of preparations for the off-cycle Governorship elections scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023. The trial accreditation will utilise the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the uploading of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

A maximum of three polling units in each Senatorial District have been identified across the three states, totalling nine Senatorial Districts and 27 polling units. Insights gained from this exercise will be instrumental in streamlining the process for the actual Election Day.

INEC emphasised that this accreditation trial is a purely experimental, not the official election. Registered voters within the selected polling units are urged to participate by presenting their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) during the trial.

Tribunal Judgment: APC Lampoons Atiku, Obi, Opposition Attacks INEC

The APC has slammed Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, for criticizing the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which upheld President Tinubu’s election.

This is against the backdrop of Atiku and Obi attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its conduct of the polls.

Responding to a statement from Atiku’s Media Aide, Paul Ibe, that the election was rigged, the Director of Publicity for the APC, Bala Ibrahim, slammed the PDP candidate, saying it takes a criminally-minded person to understand how a system is hacked.

While stating that he had no problem with the Adamawa State-born politician heading to the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict, Ibrahim labeled him as a bad sportsman.

Lampooning the former Vice President further, Ibrahim accused him of having ‘a compromised mind.’

Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC has congratulated President Bola Tinubu over his victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

The APC’s NWC stated this in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
