January 12, 2023 93.4m Persons Eligible To Vote, Says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said there are 93.46 million registered voters in Nigeria.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stated this while presenting the data of registered voters to political parties in Abuja.

The new list shows that out of the 93.46 million registered voters, the Northwest has the highest number of 22.25 million followed by the Southwest with 17.95 million while the Southeast has the least number with 10.9 million eligible voters.

However, state-wise, Lagos leads with 7.06 million followed by Kano with 5.92 million, and Kaduna with 4.35 million eligible voters.

By gender distribution, male voters are about 49.06 million while female voters are 44.41million.

Also, the youths aged 18 to 34 make up the majority, with 37.6 million representing 39.66 percent of the voters.

In an interview with Inspiration FM, the Executive Director, Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative, Nelson Ekujumi said the total number may not translate to much if all the registrants do not get their PVCs.

Speaking on the total number of youths, Ekujimi said it could be more, but they have not come to the full realization of their influence in the country.
