Cristiano Ronaldo Set To Stay At Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo will be told Juventus expect him to stay at the club when he returns for pre-season training on Monday.

The 36-year-old's €30m-a-year contract runs out next summer and Juventus risk losing him for nothing in 2022 unless they sell the forward this summer or offer him a new deal.

Ronaldo had been linked with a move away from the Allianz Stadium and was set to leave the club if they missed out on securing Champions League qualification for next season.

Despite seeing their nine-year Serie A winning streak come to an end last term, Juve secured fourth spot and won both the Coppa Italia and Suppercoppa Italiana. Ronaldo also finished as the leading scorer in the top flight with 29 goals in 33 appearances.

The Portugal international was believed to be frustrated at the end of the season when former Juve boss Andrea Pirlo benched him because of "fatigue" for their final game of the season.

on his Instagram account after the conclusion of the campaign to say he had accomplished everything he had wished to achieve since arriving in Italy, comments which led to speculation over his future.

Ronaldo is costing Juventus £52m a year and he earns £25m after tax.

Portugal And France Progress After Thrilling Draw

Cristiano Ronaldo equaled the men’s all-time international goal scoring record as defending champions Portugal drew with France to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2020 as one of the best third-placed teams.

Ronaldo scored his 108th and 109th goals, both from the penalty spot, to equal Ali Daei’s record set with Iran between 1993 and 2006.

They came either side of half-time but were not enough to give Portugal victory as striker Karim Benzema broke a six-year goal drought with France to score twice and ensure Les Bleus topped the group.

On a frantic evening, the four teams in Group F changed positions frequently, with Portugal looking set to face England in the next round before Germany’s dramatic late equalizer bumped them from fourth to second and eliminated Hungary.

Ronaldo gave Portugal the lead after Hugo Lloris followed through on Danilo as he attempted to punch away a cross, before Benzema equalized on the brink of half-time after Nelson Semedo was adjudged to have blocked off Kylian Mbappe’s run in the box.

Benzema scored a second immediately after the restart following a stunning pass from Manchester United’s Paul Pogba but Ronaldo drew Portugal level when he won and converted a second penalty 13 minutes later.

The draw in Munich meant Portugal finished in third place based on a head-to-head record, while France topped the group, a point ahead of Germany.

Ronaldo Becomes Euros All-Time Top Scorer After Getting Brace

Cristiano Ronaldo thanked his Portugal team-mates for helping him to surpass Michel Platini as the European Championship's outright all-time record goalscorer with his double against Hungary.

The 36-year-old scored a penalty late on in Tuesday's Group F clash to move one in front of Platini – who netted all nine of his goals in the 1984 edition – at the top of the competition's scoring charts.

He added to his tally in added time as Portugal, who opened the scoring through Raphael Guerreiro's 84th-minute strike in Budapest, became the first team in the history of the Euros to score three goals in the final 10 minutes of a game.

Ronaldo is also the first man to play and score in five separate European Championships and now has an even greater record in sight, the Juventus forward just three shy of Ali Daei's world record of 109 international goals.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner will have an opportunity to close in on Daei's impressive tally when Portugal take on Germany in Munich in their next group outing on Saturday.

Ronaldo: ‘I’ve Achieved The Goal I Set Myself When I Arrived At Italy’

Cristiano Ronaldo says he has achieved what he set out to do with Juventus amid continued doubts about his future.

The 36-year-old Portugal captain, who joined Juve from Real Madrid in 2018, has a year left on his contract.

Ronaldo has won two Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia and two Italian Super Cups but Juve failed to win the league this season for the first time since 2011.

During his three years in Italy, Ronaldo has also been named Serie A footballer of the year twice, and was the competition's top scorer in the season just completed.

He said via a lengthy Instagram post: "I have to value everything we achieved this season at Juventus, both in collective and individual terms."

He added: "The Italian Super Cup, the Italian Cup and the Serie A Top Scorer trophy fill me with happiness, mainly due to the difficulty they carry with them, in a country where nothing is easy to win.

"With these achievements, I reached a goal that I had set myself since the first day I arrived in Italy: to win the Championship, the Cup and the Super Cup, and also to be Best Player and Top Scorer in this great football country."

He also passed 760 career goals, giving him a disputed claim to being the highest scorer of all time.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward has won major individual and team honours with clubs in three countries.
