Jose Peseiro Lists Ekong, Orban, 18 Others For Qualifier In Uyo

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has invited on-field captain William Ekong, defenders Tyronne Ebuehi and Semi Ajayi, midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, as well as forwards Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen and Taiwo Awoniyi, for next weekend’s qualification series final-day encounter against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo.

Nigeria, on 12 points from their previous five matches, is already guaranteed a place in the finals but must earn at least a point to be sure of topping the group ahead of second-placed Guinea Bissau, who are on 10 points and play at home to Sierra Leone in Bissau.

Peseiro has called for the first time Belgium-based centre-back Jordan Torunarigha and forwards Victor Boniface and Gift Orban.

There are recalls for Portugal-based left-back Bruno Onyemaechi and defensive midfielder Raphael Onyedika.

Ansu Fati Joins Brighton on a season-long loan from Barcelona, With The Promising Winger Eager For Regular Playing Time.

Ansu Fati, a Spain international, has signed a season-long loan at the American Express Community Stadium, but there is no option for the move to become permanent; Brighton will pay 80% of his contract over ten months until next June, totaling £7 million.

Brighton are paying him 80% of his Barcelona contract over ten months, until the end of next June, for a total of £7 million.

Fati has made over 100 appearances for the LaLiga giants since making his debut as a 16-year-old in August 2019.

“This is a fantastic deal for all of us,” Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said. I am confident that Ansu will assist us in setting a new goal and returning him to the level he deserves.”

Ansu, who made 36 LaLiga appearances last season as Barcelona won their first title in four years, began his career at the club’s legendary La Masia program at the age of ten.

Last season, the 20-year-old went on to win the Spanish Super Cup as well as the UEFA Nations League with Spain. He has appeared in two FIFA World Cup matches for Spain, a country he has represented nine times at the senior level, scoring two goals.

Man City Reach Verbal Agreement On £47m Nunes Deal

Manchester City formally agreed with Wolves to sign midfielder Matheus Nunes for £53m.

Their deal includes a 10% sell-on clause for Wolves from any profit City make on the 25-year-old in future.

Nunes has now been cleared to have a medical in Manchester.

City had a previous bid for the Portugal international rejected last week, as Wolves held out for a fee closer to their asking price of over £60m.

Nunes has been absent from training recently after making it clear he wants to join Pep Guardiola's side.

In addition, Wolves have agreed to sign City's England Under-21 international Tommy Doyle on loan, with the option of a £4.3m transfer that would include a 50% sell-on clause.

City wanted to bolster their midfield options even before Kevin de Bruyne suffered the hamstring injury that could keep him out for four months.

West Ham's Lucas Paqueta was an option before it emerged the Brazilian, 25, is being investigated by the Football Association for potential betting rule breaches.

Hamilton And Russell Extend Mercedes Contracts

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will continue as Mercedes' driver line-up for at least the next two years.

Hamilton has signed a new contract that will extend his period with the team to 13 years and keep him in F1 well past his 40th birthday.

And Russell, who joined Mercedes in 2022, has also signed a two-year deal.

The move confirms pledges by Hamilton and team principal Toto Wolff that a new deal for the seven-time champion was only a matter of time this season.

For Hamilton, it allows him to continue a quest for a record eighth-world drivers' title, which both driver and team believe was robbed from them at the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton lost out to Red Bull's Max Verstappen after former FIA race director Michael Masi ignored the rules in operating a late-race safety car period.

Since then, Mercedes have fallen from competitiveness as Red Bull has dominated the sport.
