Man City Reach Verbal Agreement On £47m Nunes Deal

Manchester City formally agreed with Wolves to sign midfielder Matheus Nunes for £53m.

Their deal includes a 10% sell-on clause for Wolves from any profit City make on the 25-year-old in future.

Nunes has now been cleared to have a medical in Manchester.

City had a previous bid for the Portugal international rejected last week, as Wolves held out for a fee closer to their asking price of over £60m.

Nunes has been absent from training recently after making it clear he wants to join Pep Guardiola's side.

In addition, Wolves have agreed to sign City's England Under-21 international Tommy Doyle on loan, with the option of a £4.3m transfer that would include a 50% sell-on clause.

City wanted to bolster their midfield options even before Kevin de Bruyne suffered the hamstring injury that could keep him out for four months.

West Ham's Lucas Paqueta was an option before it emerged the Brazilian, 25, is being investigated by the Football Association for potential betting rule breaches.

Hamilton And Russell Extend Mercedes Contracts

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will continue as Mercedes' driver line-up for at least the next two years.

Hamilton has signed a new contract that will extend his period with the team to 13 years and keep him in F1 well past his 40th birthday.

And Russell, who joined Mercedes in 2022, has also signed a two-year deal.

The move confirms pledges by Hamilton and team principal Toto Wolff that a new deal for the seven-time champion was only a matter of time this season.

For Hamilton, it allows him to continue a quest for a record eighth-world drivers' title, which both driver and team believe was robbed from them at the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton lost out to Red Bull's Max Verstappen after former FIA race director Michael Masi ignored the rules in operating a late-race safety car period.

Since then, Mercedes have fallen from competitiveness as Red Bull has dominated the sport.

Monaco Sign Balogun For £35m From Arsenal

Monaco have completed the £35m signing of striker Folarin Balogun from Arsenal on a five-year deal.

The 22-year-old United States forward returns to France after scoring 22 goals on loan at Reims last season.

Balogun had not featured for Arsenal in the Premier League at the start of this season despite first-choice striker Gabriel Jesus being injured.

He signed professional terms with Arsenal at 17 and made two top-flight appearances with the club.

In Jesus' absence, Eddie Nketiah started the first two matches of the campaign, while Leandro Trossard was favoured in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Fulham.

In a statement on their website, Arsenal said: "We thank Folarin for his contribution to Arsenal, through our academy into the first team, and wish him the best of health and happiness in his new chapter at Monaco."

Born in New York, Balogun moved to London as a child and came through Arsenal's academy system.

He played for England age group sides through to under-21s, earning 13 caps at that level, before electing to play for the United States at senior level.

Balogun had loan spells at Middlesbrough and Reims and was linked with Chelsea before Arsenal accepted Monaco's offer.

August 31, 2023 Brighton Set To Sign Spain Forward On Season-Long Loan

Brighton Set To Sign Spain Forward On Season-Long Loan

Spain forward Ansu Fati is set to complete a surprise season-long loan move to Brighton from Barcelona.

Fati has fallen the pecking order at Barcelona, who need to create space in their squad to sign Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo on loan.

Brighton's deal for the 20-year-old does not include an obligation to buy.

Tottenham had also been linked with Fati, but he is understood to have been impressed by Brighton's style of play under manager Roberto de Zerbi.

If the deal goes as planned, it would be a major coup for Brighton, who will be playing European football this season for the first time, having qualified for the Europa League.

Fati, who was born in Guinea-Bissau but chose to represent Spain and was part of their World Cup squad last year, is widely viewed as one of the most promising young players in the game.

In 2021, he signed a new contract with Barcelona to run until 2027, including a 1bn euro buyout clause.
