Gauff Powers Into First Us Open Semi-Finals Against Muchova

American teenager Coco Gauff delighted the home fans by reaching her first US Open semi-finals with a 6-0 6-2 victory over Iga Swiatek's conqueror Jelena Ostapenko on Tuesday.

Gauff, whose lead-up to the US Open included hardcourt titles in Washington and Cincinnati, converted six of her seven break points and dropped serve just once during the 67-minute match on a sun-drenched Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 19-year-old is the first American teenager to reach the final four at Flushing Meadows since Serena Williams was the runner-up to her older sister, Venus, in 2001.

Up next for Gauff will be Czech 10th seed and French Open finalist Karolina Muchova after she hammered 31 winners in a comfortable 6-0 6-3 victory over Romanian 30th seed Sorana Cirstea.

With her win, Muchova became only the second Czech player to reach the women's singles semi-final at Roland-Garros and the US Open in a calendar year, after Helena Sukova in 1986.

Eric Bailly Completes Besiktas Move

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has completed a move to Turkish side Besiktas.

The Ivory Coast international, 29, is not part of United manager Erik ten Hag's plans and spent last season on loan at Marseille.

Bailly was former boss Jose Mourinho's first signing when he joined from Villarreal in June 2016.

He went on to make 113 appearances for United, scoring one goal, but has struggled with injuries.

Bailly's last competitive appearance for United was in a 3-1 win over Burnley in December 2021.

A statement from the Turkish Super Lig side said: "Our club has reached an agreement with Manchester United for the final transfer of Ivorian defender Eric Bailly.

"We wish Eric Bailly, who we believe will provide important services to our club, great success with our glorious jersey, and present it to the public with our respect."

He is the second United player to move to Turkey after Fenerbahce signed Fred in August.

Turkish sides have until 15 September to add to their squads.

Wolves Forward Podence Joins Olympiacos On Loan

Daniel Podence has signed a new deal at Wolves and joined former club Olympiakos on a season-long loan.

Podence, 27, has played 105 games for Wolves since his £16.6m move from the Greek side in January 2020 but has not featured this season.

The Portugal forward's new contract runs until 2025 with an option for a one-year extension.

"It's no secret that Daniel was keen to look at new options," Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs said.

"This is an opportunity for him to go back where he was and play European football, and he understood that for us to allow it, he had to sign a contract."

The winger spent two seasons with Olympiacos between 2018 and 2020 and helped the club win the Super League title in 2019-2020.

Hobbs added: "There's still a possibility Daniel comes back and plays for Wolves again, but it was the right time to let him go and play this season.

"He can either come back after the season, or we'll negotiate next summer with a player with a longer contract."

Podence is the ninth player to be loaned out by Wolves this summer, with a further eight having been sold, to bring in some much-needed funds for new boss Gary O'Neil.

Wolves are 15th in the Premier League after picking up three points from their opening four games.

Brazil Drops Man Utd’s Antony After Abuse Claims

Brazil have dropped Manchester United winger Antony following allegations of abuse by his former girlfriend.

The Brazilian football federation said the 23-year-old had been withdrawn from the squad after "facts became public" that "need to be investigated".

Brazilian news outlet UOL published allegations made by Antony's ex-partner on Monday.

Police in Sao Paulo and Greater Manchester are investigating the claims, which the player has denied.

"I can calmly state that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and the other evidence that will be produced demonstrate that I am innocent of the accusations made," Antony said on social media.

Antony is accused of attacking his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin "with a headbutt" in a Manchester hotel room on 15 January, leaving her with a cut head that needed treatment from a doctor.

She also alleges she was punched in the chest, causing damage to a silicone breast implant, which required corrective surgery.

Antony added in his statement on Monday that his relationship with his former partner was "tumultuous" but insisted he "never committed any physical aggression".

In June, he also said that his former girlfriend had falsely accused him of domestic violence.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it is "aware of the allegations made, and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this report".

Antony has been replaced in the Brazil squad by Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
