Nigerian Midfielder, Frank Onyeka Compares Ivan Toney And Victor Osimhen In An Interview

Frank Onyeka laughs out loud when he was asked if his £100 million-rated Nigeria teammate, Victor Osimhen will join him at Brentford after their Africa Cup of Nations heroics.

Onyeka, a Bees midfielder, started every game for the Super Eagles, who advanced to the final in Ivory Coast before losing to the hosts. Osimhen only scored once throughout that span, but his talent was evident.

The Napoli forward is in high demand, and with several Premier League big spenders looking for a frontman this summer, he might face Onyeka in England next season.

On Osimhen, Onyeka said:

“He’s a really good guy but he’s someone that wants to win,” says Onyeka when asked what it’s like to play with the highly-rated Napoli ace. “He doesn’t like to lose, even in training. He always wants to push players around him, try to encourage them. He’s a fighter.

Of course, Onyeka’s Brentford team-mate Ivan Toney is another striker top clubs could target this summer. Boss Thomas Frank reckons Toney could be worth £100m if he’s sold. For club and country, Onyeka has first-hand experience of playing with two of the world’s top forwards. So how do they compare?

“Ivan is an all-round player, he can go anywhere, he can come down into the midfield,” said Onyeka. “Osimhen is like a target man; he tries to attack the defenders for every ball. “Both are excellent strikers.”

However, another Brentford striker pushed himself into the goal of the season category last weekend. Yoanne Wissa’s spectacular overhead kick startled West London rivals Chelsea. Onyeka was ecstatic to get the assist, unwittingly popping the ball up for his teammate.

Knee Injury Rules Tottenham Forward, Richarlison Out For Three To Four Weeks

Richarlison, Tottenham’s attacker, will be out for “three to four weeks” due to a knee injury, according to manager Ange Postecoglou.

The Brazilian, 26, sustained the injury in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Wolves the previous time out.

Richarlison has 10 goals in 22 top-flight games this season.

“Richy is disappointed because he’s been a key contributor, but that has been how our season has gone,” Postecoglou said.

Richarlison has scored nine goals in his last ten appearances.

Tottenham have struggled with injuries in recent weeks, with Postecoglou still missing defender Pedro Porro, and Ryan Sessegnon due to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing hamstring surgery this week.

However, they could benefit from the return of full-back Destiny Udogie, who returned to training this week.

Tottenham, who are fifth in the Premier League and five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, will face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

January 5, 2024 Liverpool Face Arsenal In FA Cup Clash Without Mo Salah

Liverpool Face Arsenal In FA Cup Clash Without Mo Salah

With Mohamed Salah out, Jurgen Klopp says it is “impossible” for Liverpool to play in the same manner without the Egyptian.

The forward, who scored twice against Newcastle on New Year’s Day, will represent his country in the Africa Cup of Nations, but the Reds will be without their most prolific goalscorer and key attacking danger.

Salah has been a fixture in Liverpool’s front three since his arrival in 2017, and his impact on games makes him difficult to replace. So much so that, despite the abundance of attacking quality at his disposal, Klopp admits that whoever replaces Salah on the right, likely Harvey Elliott, will not be able to recreate the Egyptian.

“I think we played against West Ham with Harvey there, and we have different defensive options,” he explained. Other players can play on the wing, but not as effectively as Mo. That is the premise behind it: we employ the boys and their skills. Do we want to play with or without Mo? No.

“However, we will find a way.” Of course, we play Arsenal, and we can lose with Mo Salah – but right now, we have a chance to win, so we consider that.”

An FA Cup match against Arsenal will be Liverpool’s first without Salah, who has previously been absent due to AFCON.

The games are coming thick and fast for Klopp, who wants to keep the Merseysiders fighting on four fronts with a Carabao Cup semi-final on the horizon.

Liverpool’s attacking options include Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota, although each of the aforementioned quartet has shown to be as potent in front of goal.

Salah, on the other hand, was sure that his club would do well in his absence: “We believe too much, we have such good talents, they just need to work hard, nothing else.” We need to express ourselves, play football, and if they succeed, Working hard, as I see it at the gym, after training, and during games, is what keeps us winning.”

The Premier League Docked Everton Ten Points For Failing To Comply With Financial Fair Play Regulations

Everton has been fined 10 points, the most severe penalty ever imposed on a Premier League side, for violating financial fair play rules. The decision puts the team in second place, two points from safety.

Everton stated they were “shocked and disappointed” by the decision, which came after an independent commission probe, and that they will appeal. The appeal will be resolved before the season ends.

Leeds, Leicester, and Burnley have previously written to Everton’s prospective new owners, 777 Partners, threatening to sue for damages if a guilty finding is returned. Everton nearly avoided relegation in both of the previous two seasons.

Southampton, another relegated club, has also threatened legal action, which may cost tens of millions of pounds. If the allegations are upheld, the price for 777 Partners will be reduced due to built-in clauses relating to the purchase of Everton.

After an assessment of Premier League clubs’ financial records for the 2021-22 season, verton were reported to the commission. Burnley and Leeds complained to the Premier League last year, questioning whether Everton had broken the rules after incurring losses of £371.8 million over the previous three years. Everton has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The Premier League allows clubs to lose a maximum of £105 million over three years, and clubs who violate its profitability and sustainability regulations (PSRs) can be penalized or deducted points.
