OLYMPICS:
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have confirmed that Breaking – which is a competitive form of Breakdance, has been included as one of the sporting disciplines in the final line-up for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.
Games organizers revealed they wanted to include sports in the programme – which were popular with new and younger audiences, and new IOC rules allow Olympic host Cities to handpick disciplines and propose them for inclusion – if they are popular in that country and can add to the Games appeal.
Breaking which has its origins in New York in the 1970’s, will join Surfing, Skateboarding and Climbing at the 2024 Olympic calendar but Squash, Chess, Billiard Sports and Parkour will not be part of the 2024 event.

England’s ODI Tour of South Africa has finally been called off, following numerous positive Coronavirus test results.
A statement revealed the Tour was called off to ensure the mental, physical health and welfare of the players.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) say they would look to reschedule the ODI’s, which forms part of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Super League.

ATHLETICS:
Kenyan distance runner Kibiwott Kandie has set a new world-record in the Half Marathon, in a race where the Top Four finishers all beat the previous record in Valencia-Spain.
The 24 year-old shaved 29 seconds off the previous mark set by compatriot Geoffrey Kamworor in Copenhagen-Denmark last year to finish first in a time of 57 minutes, 32 seconds while Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda and Rhonex Kipruto of Kenya both places second and third respectively.
In the Women’s event, Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia won with a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, 18 seconds ahead of Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya and Senbere Teferi of Ethiopia.

Breaking earns 2024 Olympic inclusion

Breaking – a competitive form of breakdancing – has been confirmed as part of the final line-up for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

It will join surfing, skateboarding and climbing, which will be retained after debuts at the delayed Tokyo Games in 2021.

However, parkour will not be part of the 2024 event after missing out.

The street sport typically involves running, jumping and climbing over obstacles.

Squash campaigned unsuccessfully for inclusion in the Paris Games, as did billiard sports and chess.

Breaking blends artistry and athleticism with key elements including top rocks – typically a competitor’s introductory dance moves -footwork, power moves and freezes.

Power moves are explosive displays such as spins, while freezes are when a performer sticks a pose.

Competitors – known as b-boys and b-girls – are not only judged on technical skill but also creativity and style, with strength, speed, rhythm and agility all considered.

Last year, the Paris 2024 organising committee had proposed breaking, surfing, skateboarding and climbing for inclusion and were waiting for a final review by the executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC has insisted that new events would only be included if they used existing Paris 2024 venues, and priority would be given to those with youth appeal or that would help achieve gender equality

Floyd Mayweather to fight youtuber Logan Paul

Floyd Mayweather, the former five-weight boxing world champion, has announced he will take on Youtuber Logan Paul in a “special exhibition” fight in February 2021.

American Mayweather, 43, ended his career unbeaten in 50 bouts.

He last fought in 2017, beating MMA star Conor McGregor in one of the richest bouts in boxing history.

Paul, 25, has fought once professionally, losing to fellow Youtuber KSI in November 2019.

There has been speculation the fight would be agreed for several months and American Paul, who has more than 22 million subscribers on Youtube, has taunted Mayweather on several occasions, with the pair exchanging insults on social media.

The fight, which will take place on 20 February and is likely to draw huge pay-per-view numbers, is the latest chance for Mayweather to take on an opponent beyond the traditional boxing world.

Batsman Steve Smith was the star on the day – scoring his second century in as many games, as he put 104 off 64 balls to help Australia post a total of 389-4 off 50 overs, while India fell short on 338-9.
Australia have won the Series 2-0, but the third and final ODI will take place in Canberra on Wednesday.

Top-ranked T20 batsman Dawid Malan helped tourists England beat hosts South Africa by four wickets in their second T20 match, to win the Series with a game to spare.
Malan scored 55 from 40 balls to lead England’s recovery from 83-4 as they chased 147 for victory, though – they finished with 148-6 in 19.5 overs.
The final match of the Series will take place on Tuesday in Capetown.

BOXING
Former world champion Mike Tyson and former four-weight division world champion Roy Jones Jr battled to an entertaining draw in their eight-round exhibition bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California last weekend.
Tyson who was making a comeback to the squared ropes in 15 years, dominated the bout for large periods but the judges who were employed by the World Boxing Council (WBC) declared the fight a draw.
Elsewhere, British heavyweight Daniel Dubois suffered a broken orbital bone and nerve damage in his left eye, as he fell to a 10th round knockout defeat – the first in his career to compatriot Joe Joyce last weekend.

FORMULA ONE
Newly-crowned 2020 world champion Lewis Hamilton claimed a record-extending 95th career race win, following his victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix in the Middle East on Sunday.
The Mercedes driver began the race in pole and he consolidated to finish first ahead of Red Bull pair Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon who placed second and third respectively, though the biggest talking point was Haas driver Romain Grosjean – who escaped a violent fire with burns to the back of his hands, after his car crashed into the barriers on the first lap.
The victory sees Hamilton match his previous best tally of 11 wins in a season, and he can match the all-time record of 13 race victories in a campaign, currently held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel – if he wins the final two races of this season.
