Barcelona Beat Real Betis On Penalties To Set Up Spanish Super Cup Final With Real Madrid

Barcelona advanced to the Spanish Supercopa final in Riyadh on Sunday, where they will face Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in an El Clasico final.

Barca gained the lead in the first half thanks to Robert Lewandowski. However, they were unable to complete the game when Nabil Fekir equalized for Betis with 15 minutes remaining in regular time.

That meant extra time was required, and Xavi’s team quickly put the misery of being held in 90 minutes behind them with a superb volley to make it 2-1. The ball dropped to the 20-year-old, and his execution was flawless as he shot past former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Barca, as in normal time, couldn’t hold out and Betis scored a second equalizer thanks to Loren Moron’s stunning backheel. Betis forced penalties despite Andres Guardado’s dismissal for two yellow cards.

Both teams scored their first two goals, with Lewandowski and Franck Kessie for Barcelona and Willian Jose and Loren for Betis. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen was the Blaugrana’s hero, save from Juanmi and William Carvalho, allowing Fati to make it 3-2 before Pedri scored the penalty to take Barca to the final.

France Beat Spain To Claim UEFA Nations League Title

Kylian Mbappe fired a contentious winner as France came from behind to beat Spain and become the second team to win the Nations League.

Mbappe was adjudged to be onside when he slid the ball under Unai Simon after Karim Benzema's stunning equaliser at Milan's San Siro.

Spain had taken the lead through Mikel Oyarzabal, who shrugged off defender Dayot Upamecano to beat Hugo Lloris.

Lloris produced two late saves to ensure victory for the world champions.

He first denied Oyarzabal before acrobatically keeping out Yeremi Pino's effort in stoppage time, as France became the competition's second winners after Portugal in 2019.

Spain Suffer First World Cup Qualifying Defeat Since 1993

Spain suffered their first World Cup qualifying defeat since 1993 as Sweden came from behind to end La Roja's 66-game run.

Carlos Soler volleyed Luis Enrique's Spain into an early lead in Stockholm on his international debut.

But just 12 seconds after play resumed Alexander Isak took advantage of a defensive mistake to slam home.

Viktor Claesson controlled Dejan Kulusevski's pass before firing in a famous winner from 12 yards out.

The previous team to beat Spain in a World Cup qualifier were Sweden's neighbors, Denmark, in March 1993 in Copenhagen.

Since then Spain had won 52 World Cup qualifiers and drawn the other 14.

The win takes Sweden top of Group B on nine points from three games.

Spain have seven points from four games and could be facing a play-off for a place at the 2022 World Cup with only the group winners qualifying automatically.

Italy Into Euro 2020 Finals After Shootout Victory Over Spain

Italy beat Spain on penalties to reach the Euro 2020 final after an enthralling semi-final at a noisy Wembley.

After Alvaro Morata's penalty was saved, Jorginho strolled up to score and set up a final with either England or Denmark in London on Sunday.

Federico Chiesa looked as if he had sent Italy - who are unbeaten in 33 games - to the final in normal time with a delightful curled finish to cap off a quick counter.

But Morata stepped off the bench to slot an equaliser with 10 minutes to go after a one-two with Dani Olmo.

However, the Juventus forward's penalty miss in the shootout proved costly as Spain lost a semi-final for the first time in their history.

Fears about an empty stadium or quiet crowd proved unfounded despite tickets still being on sale during the day, and with fans unable to fly from either country without having to quarantine for too long to watch the game.

Roberto Mancini's Italy side have been arguably the best team in the tournament - and had won their previous 13 games - and deserve their place in the final.
