President Buhari Asks Senate to Amend Pia Over Unbalanced Geographical Representation

President Muhammadu Buhari has sought amendments to the newly signed Petroleum Industry Act, including removal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning from the boards of the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

While reading the cover letter attached to an executive bill presented at the opening of plenary, Senate President, Ahmed Lawan said the proposals include the appointment of non-executive board members; removal of the ministries from the boards of the two institutions; and appointment of executive directors to the boards.

Buhari is seeking the senators’ approval to increase the numbers of the non-executive board members of each of the regulatory agencies from two to six, in order to capture the six geopolitical zones.

The new amendments proposed by the President did not address the concerns of the South-South stakeholders to increase the equity share to five per cent.

Igbo Group CISF Attacks Northern Elders Forum Over Comments on Buhari’s Successor In 2023

Concerned Igbo Stakeholders Forum has criticized the Spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, on the latter’s comments that the heavens would not fall if a northerner succeeds President Buhari in 2023.

The NEF Spokesman had made the comment while delivering an address at the Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series in Zaria.

And in a statement made available to Inspiration FM, spokesperson of the Igbo Forum, Chukwuma Okenwa, said the position of NEF was disappointing and unacceptable.

Okenwa said the north was playing on the intelligence and patience of the people of the south, adding that such comments were capable of heating up a nation confronted with diverse challenges.

The Igbo group leader said Southern Nigeria was more united than ever and will resist any plan to impose a northerner as President of Nigeria in 2023.
