At Last, President Buhari Signs Electoral Act Amendment Bill into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law.

The President assented to the bill on Friday at a short ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Aso Villa in Abuja.

President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, observed the signing of the bill.

Members of the President’s cabinet in attendance comprised his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, among others.

The signing comes barely a week to the expiration of the window the President has to take a decision on the proposed legislation, as required by the Nigerian Constitution

Upon getting the reworked bill from the National Assembly on January 31, various stakeholders including political actors and civil society groups had awaited its signing into law by the Nigerian leader.

Amid an outcry over the delay in signing the bill into law, sources had indicated that President Buhari was billed to give his assent on Wednesday.

But the signing of the bill failed to take place as scheduled and was rescheduled to Friday, although sources said the President would honour the new date

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, TIMIPRE SYLVA, has said the Federal Government has no control over the skyrocketing prices of cooking gas.

He said this while fielding questions from State House reporters after introducing the CEO, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Engr FARUK AHMED and the CEO, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Engr. The minister, who said President BUHARI was concerned about the development, stated that government cannot even subsidize the product because it is fully deregulated as gas prices are determined by the global market.

He said government was doing everything possible to bring down the price especially during the yuletide.

The senate has approved $16,230,077,718 and €1,020,000,000 loans requested by President MUHAMMADU BUHARI.

The upper legislative chamber also approved grant components of $125 million.

The president had made the request for the facilities in an addendum to the 2018-2020 borrowing plan in September.

The report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator CLIFFORD ORDIA, PDP, Edo Central during the plenary, despite some senators not knowing the terms and conditions of the loans.

Tinubu Visits Aso Rock, Describes President Buhari As An Exceptional Leader

The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu has described President Buhari as an exceptional leader.

Tinubu stated this after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock, Abuja.

At the end of the meeting, Tinubu said he was at the presidential villa to thank the president for visiting him in London where he sought medical treatment.

“I came to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for visiting me in London when I had a knee surgery. He demonstrated empathy. He is an exceptional leader,” he said.

He said the President demonstrated empathy during the visit.

You will recall that President Buhari visited Tinubu in London in August while seeking medical treatment.
