Rivers: Clark Faults Tinubu’s ‘Imposed Settlement’, Threatens Lawsuit

Leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Pa Edwin Clark, has described the truce reached between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike as an “imposed settlement.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the elder statesmen said the communique issued at the end of the reconciliatory meeting was “baffling, appalling and unacceptable” to the people, especially, the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

Clark alleged that from the terms of settlement, President Bola Tinubu sees his role as a mediator to show gratitude to the FCT Minister for ‘delivering’ Rivers State to him during the past Presidential elections.

He said the eight resolutions reached, are the most unconstitutional, and absurd resolutions at settling feuding parties that he has seen saying Fubara was ambushed and intimidated into submission.

He stressed that the president cannot use his powers to override the constitution.

The nonagenarian vowed to go to court to resist what he termed as the oppressive action using all available constitutional and legal means while appealing to the aggrieved youths to remain calm.

Yesterday, President Bola Tinubu had intervened in the political crisis in the state by initiating a truce agreement between Governor Fubara and Wike through the signing of an eight-point resolution.

These include that Fubara and his team would withdraw all the court cases instituted and that the Rivers Assembly would drop all impeachment proceedings against the governor.

Also, the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly as led by the Martin Amaewhule shall be recognized alongside the 27 members who resigned from the PDP, among others.

Fubara, Wike Sign Agreement To Resolve Rivers Crisis After Tinubu’s Intervention

The political crisis in Rivers State may have been put to rest after Rivers State governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, signed a truce agreement at a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa yesterday.

Also present at the meeting were Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, former River’s governor, S, and some traditional rulers from the state.

The rift between Wike and Fubara had split lawmakers in the House, with 27 of them decamping from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The rift also saw the emergence of the parallel house of assembly sittings, an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a gale of resignations of some commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.

Following the meeting, the warring parties agreed that all matters instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team be withdrawn immediately.

It was also agreed that all impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly be dropped immediately, and all parties recognise the leadership of Martin Amaewhule in the Rivers State House of Assembly, amongst others.

The two camps also agreed to recognise the 27 lawmakers who recently resigned from the PDP to the APC.

Callers on Inspiration FM’s breakfast show, The Big Story, shared their opinions on the development.

Respect Rules Of Your Party – Wike Warns Rivers Politicians

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and former Governor Nyesom Wike has said he is open to a peaceful resolution of the recent conflict that has plagued Rivers State.

Wike stated this while addressing the traditional ruler of Ogbaland, who had come to felicitate him on his recent birthday at his residence in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The chiefs and other members of the traditional institution from Ogbaland in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state were led by the traditional ruler, Nwachukwu Nnam-Obi, the Third and called for peace in the state.

In response, Wike assured the monarch that he would listen to his advice and debunked claims that the political crisis was an ethnic war.

He, however, said that no one would drag down him and his political team in the state.
