Messi Extends PSG Contract

Paris Saint-Germain have revealed that World Cup-winning Argentina captain Lionel Messi has agreed to extend his contract at the Parc des Princes for at least another season, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023-24 season, when he will be 37.

During the World Cup, PSG had regular discussions with Lionel Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, and Le Parisien reported that a verbal agreement was reached several weeks ago at the beginning of December.

The news appears to put an end to speculation about a possible return to Barcelona, who were rumored to be preparing to use another financial level to facilitate Messi’s return to Camp Nou.

Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, has also been linked to Messi, but will have to wait at least another 18 months to get their man.

According to the Paris-based publication, PSG had little trouble convincing Messi to stay, with Messi and his family happy and settled in Paris and the new contract providing an opportunity for him to continue playing at the highest level.

Prior to the World Cup, rumors circulated that the former Barcelona star was doubting his ability to continue playing elite-level soccer, but his outstanding performances in Qatar, where he scored eight goals, including two in the final against France, demonstrated that he still has a lot to offer.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice and provided three assists as Paris St-Germain kept their 12-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 with victory over lowly Lorient.

Neymar stroked in the opener and PSG's fifth, both from Mbappe through-balls.

Mbappe coolly drilled home in the first half and took his tally to 17 for the season with a rasping finish, before laying off for Lionel Messi's goal.

Terem Moffi pulled a goal back in the second half, but the loss means Lorient stay a point above the drop zone.

France striker Mbappe could have had a hat-trick in a virtuoso display, but struck the foot of the post late on.

Earlier on Sunday, second-placed Marseille won 4-2 at Saint-Etienne, while former champions Monaco, who are sixth, edged a 2-1 victory at Metz.

PSG Maintain 100% Ligue 1 Start with Victory at Metz

Achraf Hakimi scored a dramatic injury-time goal as Paris St-Germain maintained their winning start to the Ligue 1 season with victory at Metz.

Hakimi curled into the bottom corner in the 95th minute for his second strike of the match to make it seven straight wins for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Morocco right-back had put PSG ahead after just five minutes.

Centre-back Boubakar Kouyate headed in from a corner to bring bottom side Metz level before half-time.

But the hosts, reduced to 10 men in added time when captain Dylan Bronn was sent off for a second yellow card for kicking the ball away, were unable to hold out for a hard-earned point as Hakimi finished from Neymar’s pass.

PSG were without Lionel Messi after he sustained a knee injury in Sunday’s win over Lyon.

Barcelona And Neymar Reach Out-Of-Court Agreement In Legal Dispute

Barcelona have reached an out-of-court agreement with their former player Neymar to end a legal dispute in "amicable fashion".

Brazil forward Neymar, 29, claimed Barca refused to pay him £37.2m in owed loyalty bonuses after his £200m move to Paris St-Germain in 2017.

Barca then started legal proceedings to get him to pay back the £8m he received when he signed a new deal in 2016.

Last June, a Spanish court ordered Neymar to pay Barca £6.1m.

But reports said he had appealed against the decision and launched a new case, which is now void.

The La Liga side said in a statement:  "FC Barcelona announce that it has ended out of court in amicable fashion the various labour and civil litigation cases that were open with the Brazilian player Neymar.

"As such, a transactional agreement between the club and the player has been signed to end the legal cases that were pending between the two parties."
