Jurgen Klopp Says He Is Still Liverpool Manager ‘Because Of The Past, Not This Season’

Liverpool Manager Klopp Says He Remains in His Position Due to Past Performance Rather Than Current Season Results

Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, has stated that his job is secure due to the team's past performance rather than their current standings.

With Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter both being dismissed, the Premier League has now had 12 managers sacked this season.

Liverpool is at risk of their worst league finish under Klopp, with the team currently in eighth place, but Klopp's job remains secure.

Klopp has led Liverpool to win club football's major honours during his seven and a half years at Anfield, making him the longest-serving manager in the Premier League.

Despite losing their past three games in all competitions, Klopp is confident in his team's position and their owners' understanding of the situation. Klopp added that he is here to deliver, not as a talisman or for murals on house walls.

Although he is aware that he is still in his position due to what has happened in the past few years, Klopp stated that he does not like relying on that fact and is curious about what the future holds.

September 24, 2021 Firmino And Alexander-Arnold to Return for Liverpool

Firmino And Alexander-Arnold to Return for Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino could return for Liverpool in Saturday’s Premier League trip to Brentford.

Firmino has not featured since suffering a hamstring injury against Chelsea on August 31 while Alexander-Arnold missed the last two games due to illness.

James Milner and Neco Williams have also returned to training ahead of the trip to Brentford Community Stadium, but Naby Keita could miss out along with Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “Trent was not injured, Trent was a little bit ill. He’s back in training, trained yesterday (Wednesday) and will be fine.

“Bobby trained already for two or three days, so he is back in contention, let me say it like this. We used him a little bit as a ‘joker’ [in training].

“But he will be in the normal training and then we have to make a decision if we take him with us or not. Porto, 100 per cent. Brentford, we have to see.”

Liverpool Win To Boost Top Four Hopes

Jurgen Klopp celebrated his first win at Old Trafford as Liverpool came from behind to beat Manchester United and boost their chances of a Champions League place.

In a thrilling game played against the backdrop of noisy protests against the United ownership outside the ground, United struck first through Bruno Fernandes' deflected opener.

But Liverpool, who had seen one of their buses prevented from picking team members up before the game after being blocked in the street, hit back through Diogo Jota's instinctive effort.

Roberto Firmino, who had only scored once since his two-goal haul at Crystal Palace in December, then put his side on top with a well-taken double either side of half-time.

Marcus Rashford pulled one back for United midway through the second half but Mohamed Salah wrapped up the points with a late breakaway strike for his 21st Premier League goal of the season.

That moved him level with Harry Kane in the Golden Boot standings and condemned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to a sixth home defeat of the season.

The result takes Liverpool fifth in the Premier League. If they win at West Brom on Sunday they will close to within one and three points respectively of FA Cup finalists Chelsea and Leicester, who still have to play each other at Stamford Bridge on 18 May.

Klopp Charges His Side Ahead Of Quarter-Final 2nd Leg Tie

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says his side have to be "their best selves" to overturn a two-goal deficit in their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Real won 3-1 in Spain last week, meaning Liverpool need to win by at least two goals at Anfield to advance.

"When you're 3-1 down, it looks like we're already out so we have nothing to lose and will try," said Klopp.

"To beat Real Madrid you have to defend at your highest level and also create."

Liverpool have reached two Champions League finals under Klopp, losing to Real in 2017-18 before beating Tottenham in 2018-19.

But the Reds, sixth in the Premier League and unable to retain their domestic title, have it all to do after two Vinicius goals and another from Marco Asensio helped Real to a first-leg success.

"We have to bring ourselves in a mood and start believing again. If we can see it's possible then we have a chance but it's still incredibly difficult." added Klopp.

Two seasons ago in the semi-finals Liverpool lost 3-0 in the first leg away at Barcelona before winning 4-0 at Anfield. In 2016 in a Europa League quarter-final, the Reds trailed 4-2 on aggregate with 24 minutes to go against Borussia Dortmund but recovered to progress.

"You don't get a comeback because you had one in the past," added the German.

The winners of the tie will play Chelsea in the semi-finals after Thomas Tuchel's side beat Porto 2-1 on aggregate, despite losing 1-0 in the second leg on Tuesday.
