Insufficient Manpower Hampers Deployment Of Police To Critical Areas — IGP

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has said Nigeria must recruit an additional 190,000 personnel into the Police Force to adequately secure the country.

According to the IGP, the figure is needed to match the ratio of Police to population recommended by the United Nations of one Policeman to almost 450 citizens.

He said Nigeria’s current Police strength is just over 370,000, which amounts to one Policeman to about 600 citizens.

To meet the UN’s benchmark, IGP Egbetokun said the Federal Government needs to increase the annual Police recruitment quota, as inadequate manpower could hinder the government’s industrialization efforts.
