Gunmen Kill Eight Traders in Abia Market

Abia State Government has confirmed the killing of eight persons and 51 cows by gunmen at new Cattle Market in Omuma-Uzo in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

Commissioner for Information, EZE CHIKAMNAYO, who confirmed the incident in a statement made available to reporters in Aba, condemned the attack.

He said some yet-to- be-identified gunmen attacked traders at the cattle market on February 15, at about 11.35 p.m.

The commissioner said the government responded swiftly by mobilising security agencies to the scene to secure the lives and property of the traders and fish out the assailants.

Security Operatives Hunt For Gunmen Who Kidnapped 6 People University Of Abuja Staff Quarters

A professor of economics, Obansa Joseph, two of his children, and others unidentified have been kidnapped by gunmen who stormed the staff quarters of the University of Abuja.

A resident said the gunmen invaded the senior staff quarters at Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory in the early hours of today and operated for about an hour.

The names of the professor’s two children abducted during the attack could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

The identities of the other victims who were kidnapped are also unclear but the university’s spokesman, Habib Yakoob, confirmed the development, saying the victims are six in number.

He, however, added that security operatives have been mobilized to secure their freedom.

Unknown gunmen have attacked the University of Abuja, UNIABUJA staff quarters, and abducted an unspecified number of members of staff and some of their family members.

Inspiration FM learnt that the unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday (today) when the assailants stormed the school premises shooting sporadically before whisking some victims away to an unknown destination.

While confirming this sad incident, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh said that about six persons were whisked into the forest by the bloodthirsty men.

She stated that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Babaji Sunday had dispatched additional tactical and conventional policing resources to the university's main and satellite campuses, as well as the staff quarters and other affiliate formations of the university, "to fortify security, improve public safety and protect citizens in and around the university community.

"The CP gave the order following report that some yet to be identified armed criminals invaded the UNIABUJA Staff Quarters located at the GIRI area of the FCT in the early hours of today, 2nd November, 2021.

"The CP noted that a combined team of the Police and personnel of the Nigerian Army 176 Guards Battalion were swiftly mobilized to the area to protect the citizens.

"Preliminary investigations however revealed that six (6) persons were allegedly abducted into the forest by the criminals on sighting the security operatives.

"The CP, while calling for calm, further noted that the security forces are already working with the locals in the area toward rescuing the victims. He assured that the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book.

"On this note, the Command pledges its undeterred resolve to ensure lives and properties of residents within the FCT are protected and urge them to report all suspicious movements, emergency or distress, through these numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883".

Gunmen Abduct 8 Persons In Ekiti State, Demand N50 Million Ransom

Barely a week after four persons were kidnapped at Ayebode, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, eight persons have been kidnapped at Itapaji Ekiti in the same council area.

The kidnappers, it was learnt, contacted the family, demanding for the sum of N50 million as ransom.

An eyewitness told reporters that the gunmen stormed a house located in the town around 9.30pm, shot sporadically into the air and took away eight occupants of the building.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the sad incident, said a special police operative as well as the JTF squads have been deployed to the area to ensure they rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.
