Gunmen Attack Event Venue in Ogun State, Shoot Babcock University Lecturer and Abduct Two

Approximately eight individuals, clad in black attire, reportedly stormed the Ajadeh Event Centre in Iperu Remo along Sagamu road, resulting in the tragic killing of Babcock University lecturer Yinka Olowojobi. Additionally, two others were abducted during the violent incursion.

The incident, as disclosed by Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, occurred on Friday, April 19, around 9:20 pm. Allegedly, the gunmen fatally shot Olowojobi in the chest when he resisted their demands.

Olowojobi, along with another individual identified as Dare, and a third person yet to be named, were reportedly unwinding in the lounge area of the event centre when the assailants struck.

In response to the incident, the police have apprehended a suspect named Awada Ishaya from Plateau State, who had recently been employed as a security guard at the event centre.

The official statement from the police division in Iperu detailed the events, citing eyewitnesses who observed the gunmen, armed and dressed in black, entering the lounge and firing indiscriminately. Olowojobi's resistance allegedly led to his fatal shooting, while Dare and the unidentified third individual were also affected by the attack.

Following the shooting, Olowojobi was rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Efforts are currently underway to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the abducted victims. The authorities have assured the public that updates will be provided as the situation progresses.

Gunmen Kidnap Channels TV Reporter In Rivers

Gunmen abducted Joshua Rogers, a journalist with Channels Television in Rivers State, from his residence in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Thursday night around 9 pm, shortly after Rogers returned home from work.

According to reports, Rogers was trailed to his residence and confronted by armed individuals who forcibly took him away in his own vehicle. As the Government House correspondent for Channels Television, Rogers had been covering an event in Ndoni, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA earlier that day, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara inaugurated a primary healthcare center donated by former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili.

The kidnappers have since contacted Rogers' wife, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release. Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, for comment on the situation have been unsuccessful.

Gunmen Abduct Several Students In Delta State

Gunmen have kidnapped an unspecified number of students along the East-West road in Ughelli, Delta State. The vehicle's driver managed to escape unharmed.

According to Edafe Bright, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, the victims were possibly students returning from Calabar, Cross River State, on Friday night. They were abducted from the minibus they were traveling in. So far, no ransom demand has been made.

However, the police are actively searching for both the abductors and the students. Bright tweeted, "The Command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt."This abduction follows another incident where students from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) were kidnapped in Cross River.

The three students identified as Ojang Precious Ebejin, Ugwu Chukwuemeka, and Damilola Dickson were reportedly taken. Ojang is a 200-level student of Medicine and Surgery, Ugwu is a 300-level student of Genetics and Biotechnology, and Damilola is a final year student in the same department.

Gunmen Kill Inspector, One Neutralised In Fresh Rivers Ambush

The Rivers State Police Command says an inspector has been killed by gunmen after an ambush on its men on a stop and search duty at the Eliozu Flyover in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson of the police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this in a statement, said the gunmen drove in a carton-colored Sienna bus, with fully tinted glasses from the Rumuodumaya axis, near Port Harcourt, where they launched the attack.

Iringe-Koko noted that the team managed to neutralize one of the miscreants, but the others escaped, as investigations continue

She added that the command has launched a thorough investigation into the case and that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olatunji Disu, remains committed to maintaining law and order.
