I Fear That Femi Falana And Wunmi Want To Kill Me – Mohbad’s Father Cries

Joseph Ayoba, the father of the late Mohbad, has expressed deep concern for his safety, alleging those threats from the singer's widow, Wunmi, and her lawyer, Femi Falana, have left him fearful for his life.

In a recent interview, Ayoba voiced his disappointment regarding the delayed release of his son's autopsy report. He claimed to have received threats from Falana and Wunmi, leading to heightened anxiety about his safety.

"I need justice for my son, and I want people to support me. The delay in the autopsy report and other issues can lead to denial. I don’t trust anyone right now. The threats from Falana and his client have made it impossible for me to sleep. I need help, and I want people to support me because the autopsy is going to be done in a private facility," Ayoba stated.

Expressing his fears, Ayoba alleged that Wunmi might orchestrate harm against him and accused her of threatening his life. He also implicated Falana, claiming that the prominent lawyer was collaborating with Wunmi and had obstructed assistance from others.

"I don’t know where to live now because of the threats. Yesterday, when I heard a knock on my gate, I was scared it might be the people Wunmi said wanted to come and kill me. And Falana is still on her side," Ayoba asserted.

He further claimed that Wunmi had made threatening calls to him, even recording one such call. Ayoba accused Falana of being aware of these threats yet standing by Wunmi, preventing others from helping him.

"Despite everything, he is still supporting her. He is silencing people who speak the truth. He wants to manipulate for financial gain. We are from the same Ekiti State," Ayoba added.

The dispute between Mohbad's father and widow has escalated since the singer's demise on September 12, 2023. The conflict revolves around the singer's assets and possessions, with Ayoba urging Wunmi to conduct a paternity test on their son, Liam. Amidst the ongoing disagreements, Wunmi sought legal representation from Femi Falana.

Resign For ‘Betraying Nigerians’, Falana Tells Edu

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has asked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, to resign for “betraying the confidence reposed in her.”

In a statement, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to speed up the ongoing investigation of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and charged all indicted persons to court.

The senior lawyer described as an “extremely embarrassing drama” the circumstances surrounding Edu’s alleged involvement in the approval of 585.19 million naira to be disbursed into a personal account.

Falana said the minister should stop insulting Nigerians, having admitted that she approved the funds to be paid to a private account instead of directly transferring them to the beneficiaries’ accounts from the ministry.

The senior lawyer criticized the minister for arrogantly saying that the N585.18 million fraud allegation is a mere fabrication by her detractors and an alleged attempt by mischief makers to undermine her ministry’s effort in fighting corruption and uplifting needy people.

He said it is crystal clear from the leaked memorandum of the Minister that the offence of an attempt to commit a felony has already been completed, adding that there can be no legal justification for the criminal diversion of the said sum.

It’s Constitutionally Wrong To Say Nigerians Have No Right To Bear Arms – Falana

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has said it is unconstitutional for anyone to say that Nigerians cannot bear arms.

He was responding to the comment by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, which expressed disapproval for citizens carrying arms following the Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau State.

Speaking on a monitored program, the human rights lawyer said all it takes is obtaining a license to bear arms.

Falana, however, said it is more important for the government to take its responsibility to protect lives and property more seriously.

The senior lawyer also spoke about the Senate’s summons of the nation’s security chiefs over the killings in Plateau State.

Falana Urges Akpabio And Others To Cease Unlawful Pension Collection

Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), the Chairman of the Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond, has issued an appeal to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other former governors to discontinue the practice of collecting pensions as ex-governors.

As a human rights lawyer, Falana encouraged former governors to follow the example set by Gbenga Daniel, the former governor of Ogun State, and Ibrahim Dankwambo, the former governor of Gombe State. Highlighting the actions of the Houses of Assembly in Kwara, Imo, and Zamfara states, which have abolished the Governors Pension Scheme, Falana urged other state assemblies to follow suit promptly.

In a statement released on Sunday, Falana also referenced a significant legal judgment delivered on November 26, 2019, by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo (retd.), which deemed the payment of pensions to former governors as illegal and unconstitutional.

This judgment resulted from a lawsuit filed by an advocacy group, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, challenging the constitutional validity of pension payments to former governors in Nigeria. In the suit marked as FHC/L/CS/1497/2017, Justice Oguntoyinbo declared the pension payments illegal and unconstitutional. Consequently, she ordered the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice to recover the life pensions received by former governors serving as senators and ministers.

Falana emphasized that, in compliance with both judgments, Daniel and Dankwambo had requested the governors of Ogun and Gombe States, respectively, to cease the payment of these controversial pensions.

Falana stated, "This is a commendable step, particularly when more than 20 former governors in both the executive and legislative branches of government are receiving dual salaries. In light of these developments, we call upon Senator Akpabio and other former governors in both the executive and legislative branches to follow the example set by Senators Daniel and Dankwambo by immediately rejecting the receipt of these unlawful pensions.
