Ferdinand Backs Chelsea Defender To Become Important Player For England

Rio Ferdinand, the iconic figure from Manchester United, has thrown his weight behind Chelsea's young defender, Levi Colwill, predicting that he will emerge as a key player for the England national team in the not-so-distant future.

Ferdinand expressed his admiration for Colwill, describing him as a well-rounded footballer with a resilient mindset. During this season at Stamford Bridge, Colwill has been enjoying a consistent run in the starting lineup under Chelsea's manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

At just 20 years of age, Colwill has left a lasting impression with his unwavering performances, contributing significantly to Pochettino's side's ability to maintain four clean sheets. He has also shown versatility by registering an assist in nine appearances across various competitions, including the Premier League.

Ferdinand voiced his belief in Colwill's potential, saying, "I see him as the England centre-half in waiting because I think he's got everything. I saw him at Brighton, where he displayed composure and adapted seamlessly to a different style of play. As long as he remains committed, maintains his strong mindset, and continues to refine his game, I believe he has a tremendous opportunity ahead of him."

With the endorsement of a Manchester United legend like Rio Ferdinand, the future looks bright for Levi Colwill as he continues to make strides in his football career, both at the club level with Chelsea and on the international stage with the England national team.

Ex-Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Turns Down Lyon Job

Former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter has declined the opportunity to take charge at Lyon.

The Ligue 1 club made him their first choice to try to oversee a major restructure in eastern France. Still, while Potter met with, and was impressed by, Lyon's owner, John Textor, he has ultimately decided it is not the right time to move back into management.

Lyon's American owner has big ambitions for the club, and with the club bottom of the table, he plans to invest heavily in the squad and facilities over the coming months and years.

It is thought Lyon will now turn their attention to current Lille boss Paulo Fonseca and Julen Lopetegui, who left Wolves in August.

Potter has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in April, only 31 games into a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge. At the time, the club were 11th in the Premier League and finished outside the top half for the first time since 1996.

Before that, the 48-year-old had been in continuous work since 2011, leading Ostersunds from the Swedish fourth tier to the top flight and European football.

Chelsea have signed forward Deivid Washington from Santos for £17.1m (€20m) on a seven-year deal.

The club will now make a decision about whether the 18-year-old Brazilian will be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team squad this season or go on loan to get regular first-team football.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is expected to have a medical with the Blues in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Chelsea will pay a fee in the region of £14m, including performance-related add-ons, to New England Revolution for Petrovic and have agreed personal terms with the Serbia international.

Petrovic will be Chelsea’s second major goalkeeper signing this summer, after Robert Sanchez joined from Brighton in a £25m deal following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loan move to Real Madrid and Edouard Mendy’s
