Thiago Silva Says Goodbye to Chelsea, Suggests Possibility of Coming Back

Veteran defender Thiago Silva has officially announced his impending exit from Chelsea after a successful four-year tenure at Stamford Bridge. However, a statement released by the club on Monday hinted at the possibility of the Brazilian icon making a comeback in the future, as he expressed, "Goodbyes are for those that leave and don’t come back. I intend on coming back one day."

Since joining on a free transfer in August 2020, Thiago Silva has been a commanding presence for the Blues, amassing 151 appearances and clinching several prestigious titles, including the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

In a heartfelt message, the 39-year-old reflected on his Chelsea journey, saying, "Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here intending to only stay for a year and it ended up being four years. Not just for me but for my family, too."

His bond with the club goes beyond the pitch, with his sons currently part of Chelsea’s youth setup. "My sons play for Chelsea, so it’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family – literally because my sons are here. I hope they can continue their careers here at this victorious club that many players wish to be part of," he remarked.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent the West London club, Silva emphasized, "I think in everything I did here over the four years, I always gave my all. But, unfortunately, everything has a start, a middle, and an end. That doesn’t mean that this is a definitive end. I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here."

Despite the mixed emotions surrounding his departure, Silva's affection for Chelsea and its fans is palpable. "It’s an indescribable love. I can only say thank you. When I started here, it was during the pandemic so there weren’t any fans in the stadium. But through social media, it became something very special to me and then when the fans started coming back to the stadium and life was getting back to normal, I started to feel a lot of affection and respect for my story and for my start here," he shared.

Reflecting on his remarkable achievement of winning the Champions League with the club, Thiago Silva said, "Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I could achieve such great things and win one of the best professional titles, the Champions League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world."

EPL: Cole Palmer, Two Other Chelsea Players Doubtful For Arsenal Clash

Chelsea may face the absence of Cole Palmer in their upcoming away match against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Tuesday. Pochettino informed reporters on Monday that Palmer is struggling to recover from illness, casting doubt on his availability for the game.

Pochettino stated, "Today, no (he cannot play). We will see tomorrow morning. Today, I don’t believe he can be involved. Even if he is good tomorrow, maybe he is not in a condition to play. We hope he can recover from this situation and be involved with the team."

Palmer, who featured in Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City, has been a standout performer for Chelsea, being the joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season with 20 goals, alongside City’s Erling Haaland. His potential absence would be a setback for Chelsea as they aim to maintain their hopes of European qualification, while it could provide Arsenal with a significant advantage in their title pursuit, aiming to claim it for the first time in two decades.

In addition to Palmer's uncertainty, defenders Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell are also doubtful for the Emirates clash. Chelsea currently sit in ninth place in the league standings with 47 points from 31 matches, trailing seventh-placed Manchester United by three points but with a game in hand.

PSG Lead Arsenal, Chelsea In Race To Sign Osimhen

According to reports from Il Corriere dello Sport, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is currently at the forefront of the competition to secure the signature of Victor Osimhen, despite keen interest from English Premier League clubs Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

The Italian media outlet suggests that PSG is edging closer to meeting Osimhen's €130 million release clause, viewing the Nigerian international as the ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappé, who is set to join Real Madrid.

Osimhen recently extended his contract until 2026; however, it includes a release clause of €130 million, prompting Napoli to consider parting ways with the leading Serie A scorer of the 2022–23 season at the end of the current campaign.

Il Corriere dello Sport also notes the historical ties between PSG and Napoli in completing transfer deals. Previously, players like Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani made the switch to Paris in 2012 and 2013, respectively, for a combined transfer fee of €95 million. Additionally, in 2022, Fabian Ruiz transferred to PSG for €23 million.

These past dealings between the two clubs hint at a potential agreement for Osimhen's transfer to PSG as they look to strengthen their squad for the future.

England Youngsters, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis And Ezri Konsa Get First England Call-Ups

Cole Palmer of Chelsea, Rico Lewis of Manchester City, and Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa have all been called up to the senior England squad for the last Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

Palmer, a member of the Under-21s side that won the European Championship in July, was summoned by Gareth Southgate the morning after scoring a stoppage-time penalty for Chelsea in a 4-4 tie with his previous club Manchester City.

Lewis was promoted from the Under-21s despite appearing in just two Premier League games this season, one of which was on the opening day. He is a versatile player who is usually used as a full-back or in midfield.

Konsa, who won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017, has appeared in every Premier League game for Aston Villa this season. His club primarily uses him as a centre-back, but he can also play right-back.

The call-ups come after the departures of James Maddison, Callum Wilson, and Lewis Dunk. The majority of the squad is expected to report to St George’s Park on Monday, and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has indicated that Jude Bellingham will also be forced to withdraw.
