Milan Frustrated By Dogged Bologna

AC Milan were held to a 0-0 home draw by Bologna, leaving them one point clear at the top of Serie A.

Wins by defending champions Inter Milan and second-placed Napoli at the weekend put pressure on Milan to respond.

But the hosts struggled, with French forward Olivier Giroud's header, well saved by Lukasz Skorupski, their best first-half effort.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic came off the bench after the break, but Bologna withstood late pressure to seal a point.

Bologna, in 12th place, were without coach Sinisa Mihajlovic on the touchline as he undergoes hospital treatment for leukaemia.

Milan have seven games left as they pursue their first Scudetto since 2011.

Giroud On Target As Milan Move Top Of Seria A With Win Over Napoli

AC Milan claimed a narrow win over fellow challengers Napoli as Olivier Giroud netted the winner for the visitors.

The French striker instinctively stuck out a boot to steer in Davide Calabria’s low, driven cross early in the second half.

It was an eventful game for 35-year-old Giroud who had patiently waited for his first goal for Milan away from the San Siro.

Napoli pressed and created chances in search of a route back into the game but it was all but futile as the home side could not find a way past a stubborn Milan defense.

It was a high-quality game, albeit low on clear cut goal- scoring opportunities between two sides intent on salvaging some sort of success after inconsistent performances.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen saw a couple of shots saved by Mike Maignan and substitute Adam Ounas flashed an effort wide as the home side desperately sought parity.

Milan felt they should have been awarded a penalty for a foul by Kalidou Koulibaly on Ismael Bennacer but the referee waved away the shouts, as he did at the other end for Fikayo Tomori’s challenge on Osimhen.

The win takes Milan top on 60 points, two points better than fierce rivals Inter Milan and three ahead of Napoli.

AC Milan missed the chance to go top of Serie A as they were held to a draw by rivals Inter in the Milan derby.

Hakan Calhanoglu's penalty put Inter ahead early in the first half after he had been tripped inside the box.

The home side equalised soon after when Stefan de Vrij turned a free-kick into his own net.

Lautaro Martinez's penalty was saved before Alexis Saelemaekers hit the post late on and Franck Kessie put the rebound wide.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had also seen a late free-kick superbly kept out by Samir Handanovic as AC Milan finished strongly but could not get the winner.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Scores 400th Career Goal As AC Milan Edge Past Roma

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his 400th league goal and won a penalty as AC Milan claimed a narrow victory over Roma in Serie A.

Milan's win moves them level on points with league leaders Napoli.

Ibrahimovic, 40, opened the scoring with a free-kick and Franck Kessie converted from the spot after Roma's Roger Ibanez fouled the Swede.

Theo Hernandez was sent off for Milan, with Stephan El Shaarawy scoring in added time against his former club.

Earlier on Sunday, Napoli edged to a 1-0 win at struggling Salernitana and, like Milan, have won 10 of their first 11 games this term.
