‘The Champions League Is Cruel To Us’- Barca On The Brink Of Exit

Barcelona is on the verge of a second consecutive Champions League group-stage exit after being held to a stalemate by Inter Milan in a tense and high-octane contest at the Nou Camp.

After being defeated in the San Siro the previous week, Xavi's side headed into the game knowing that they needed to win to have any chance of moving from Group C, with teams on the same points divided by their head-to-head record.

Inter, who are second in the table behind Bayern Munich, who advanced on Wednesday, are now three points ahead of Barcelona, with both teams having to face Bayern and Viktoria Plzen.

Barcelona boss Xavi said: "We're depending on another team to go through. They are our mistakes, we have to improve them. That's the reality. The [improvement] process is longer than we thought in Europe.

"There are other competitions, La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Super Copa. We have to insist, persist, and believe.

"When you draw at home with these fans, with this atmosphere, it is my fault. I am angry. My feeling is that this competition has been, and is still being, cruel to us."

No Ranking Points Available For LIV Golfers Says Owgr

LIV Golf players will be unable to earn world ranking points at upcoming events in Bangkok and Jeddah, Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) has said.

LIV Golf said on Wednesday that it had agreed a "strategic alliance" with the Middle East and Africa (Mena) Tour to allow its players to earn points.

But OWGR says it received insufficient notice to conduct a review before the series' upcoming October events.

The OWGR has confirmed that a review of the changes to the Mena Tour is now under way.

An OWGR statement said the communication from the Mena Tour "detailed significant changes" to its membership structure, as well as an outline of the initial series of tournaments in the 2022-23 season.

It added: "Notice of these changes given by the Mena Tour is insufficient to allow OWGR to conduct the customary necessary review ahead of the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok and LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah.

LIV Golf is not currently recognised by OWGR, meaning players risk falling down the rankings and missing out on entry to the majors.

All LIV Golf players have joined the Mena Tour, which has been inactive since the start of the global pandemic, as part of the agreement.

The Saudi-backed LIV Golf will hold Invitational events in Bangkok from 7-9 October and Jeddah from 14-16 October.

Gianluca Scamacca Nets Winner For West Ham In Conference League Tie Against Anderlecht

Substitute Gianluca Scamacca slotted home the winner against Belgian side Anderlecht as West Ham recorded a third straight victory in the Europa Conference League.

Scamacca guided it into the bottom corner with a first-time strike on the turn, late in the second half.

West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola was forced to make an excellent save to deny Anderlecht striker Fabio Silva's header shortly afterwards.

There were nine changes from the side that defeated Wolves in the Premier League in their last outing, with Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma among those given an opportunity.

Benrahma had the best chances in the first half when he had a shot blocked, before he was teed up by Jarrod Bowen, only to slice it over the bar from close range with the goal gaping and the scoreline remaining even.

Antonio and Bowen also came close, while on-loan Wolves striker Silva had an effort blocked in the box by his own team-mate Francis Amuzu for Anderlecht.

Moyes made changes with around 20 minutes remaining as West Ham searched for the winner - captain Declan Rice, midfielder Lucas Paqueta and striker Scamacca all came on.

The substitutions paid off as all three were involved in the goal as Paqueta set-up Scamacca to finish a silky team move.

The Hammers sit top of Group B with Anderlecht five points behind.

Arsenal Cruise Past Bodoe Glimt In Europa League To Stay Top Of Group

Arsenal put in another confident display to comfortably see off Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League at the Emirates.

Striker Eddie Nketiah got the opener as he reacted quickly to slot home after Kieran Tierney's powerful effort came back off the post.

Fabio Vieira was on hand to set up the second as he crossed it in for Rob Holding to head it in before the Portuguese himself got on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 late on.

Mikel Arteta's side have won four successive matches in all competitions and top their Europa League group, as well as leading the Premier League.

They looked like a team playing full of confidence in the first half despite Arteta making eight changes from the side that defeated rivals Tottenham in the weekend's north London derby.

Nketiah, who also scored in the 2-1 victory over Zurich in September, came into the team and was a threat throughout.

He deserved his goal when he pounced on the rebound from Tierney's strike - he had curled it inches wide earlier and teed up Vieira for his effort which struck the crossbar within 10 minutes.

Vieira was also hugely impressive, coming close on several occasions as well as providing the quality service for Holding's goal and scoring himself when he finished off a scintillating move by Gabriel Jesus.

Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt grew into the game in the second half and posed a threat but Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner was not tested enough by the visitors and they lacked a clinical edge to give them some sort of fighting chance in the pulsating encounter.

With two wins from as many group games so far, Arsenal now top Group A by two points over PSV Eindhoven, who they will lock horns with on 20 October.
