The United Kingdom and Ireland to host the 2028 European Championships

The United Kingdom and Ireland will host Euro 2028, while Turkey and Italy will host in 2032.

The UEFA executive committee approved the five-nation offer, which went unopposed after Turkey withdrew last week to focus on its joint bid for Euro 2032 with Italy.

The UK-Ireland proposal submission in April featured ten stadiums. Six of the locations are in England, with one from Northern Ireland, one from the Republic of Ireland, one from Scotland, and one from Wales.

The event will take place in June and July of 2028, exactly seven years after England and Scotland hosted games during the re-arranged competition, which took place across Europe.

UEFA expects Euro 2028 to generate more revenue than any other big tournament, including Euro 2032.

Arsenal Star Bukayo Saka Arrives in Nigeria, Generating Great Reception From Fans

After a tough season with the English Premier League heavyweights, Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has arrived in Lagos, Nigeria.

The 21-year-old England international was born in London to Nigerian parents and has since visited the West African country.

Saka had his greatest season in the previous season, helping Arsenal finish second in the league.

In a video that has now gone viral on social media, the Arsenal player is greeted by a large crowd when he lands in Lagos for a visit.

Saka is anticipated to stay in Nigeria for a few weeks before returning to England for the UEFA Nations League and pre-season for the 2023/24 season.

Last season, the gifted winger was by far Arsenal’s greatest player, scoring 14 goals and contributing 11 assists in the English Premier League.

At the end of the season, he was rewarded with a new long-term contract.

Real Madrid Outclass Eintracht Frankfurt, Win UEFA Super Cup

Champions League winners, Real Madrid, outclassed Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 on Wednesday to clinch the UEFA Super Cup for a record-equaling fifth time.

A first half goal from David Alaba and another from Karim Benzema in the 65th, that lifted him to second in Real’s all-time scoring list with 324 goals, wrapped up the title for the Spaniards.

Europa League winners Eintracht had offered some resistance in the first half and had chances to score but were eventually overrun by the Spaniards.

The win also means Real’s Carlo Ancelotti becomes the first coach to lift the trophy four times.

The Italian had named the same starting 11 that began their winning Champions League final in Paris in May.

Eintracht were without playmaker Filip Kostic who is close to a move to Juventus, but looked more disciplined than in their 6-1 loss to Bayern Munich last week in their Bundesliga season opener.

They also carved out the first chance of the game when Daichi Kamada broke clear but could not beat Real keeper Thibaut Courtois with his low drive in the 14th minute.

Real responded three minutes later but Vinicius Jr’s effort was cleared on the line by Tuta. Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp did well to palm another Vinicius Jr effort wide.

The keeper, however, misjudged a cross in the 37th and was well out of position when Casemiro headed on for Alaba and the Austrian tapped in from close range for the lead.

April 13, 2022 Sepp Blater And Michel Platini To Go On Trial In June Over Corruption Charges

Sepp Blater And Michel Platini To Go On Trial In June Over Corruption Charges

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and former UEFA president Michel Platini will stand trial in Switzerland in June to over corruption charges levelled against them.

Swiss prosecutors allege Blatter unlawfully arranged a transfer of 2m Swiss francs (£1.6m) to Platini in 2011.

The case against the former footballing presidents was opened in September 2015 after FIFA, football's world governing body, was overwhelmed by accusations of widespread corruption.

Blatter and Platini - who were indicted in November - have both previously denied any wrongdoing but If both parties are found guilty, they could be sentenced to prison or receive fines.

FIFA's ethics committee opened an investigation which saw both men banned from the game and forced to step down from their positions.

The Swiss case is hinged on a request for payment for advisory work Platini did for the then-86-year-old FIFA president between 1998 and 2002.

Prosecutors said 66-year-old Platini demanded the payment "over eight years after the termination of his advisory activity".

"With Blatter's involvement, FIFA made a payment to Platini in said amount at the beginning of 2011," prosecutors previously said.

Blatter and Platini are charged with fraud, embezzlement, "unfaithful business management" and forgery of documents.

The trial will commence on 8 June.
