The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, is once again in mourning as it bids farewell to one of its beloved veterans, Amaechi Muonagor. Known for his memorable comedic performances, Muonagor succumbed to the complications of a long-standing battle with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The news of Muonagor's passing reverberated through the internet on the somber evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024. This sorrowful event comes mere days after a poignant video surfaced online, depicting the 61-year-old actor confined to his bed, urgently pleading for financial assistance to aid in his kidney transplant.
Beside him sat fellow actor Kingsley Orji, who earnestly appealed for support on Muonagor's behalf. Orji revealed that the relentless onslaught of kidney disease had rendered speech difficult for the ailing actor, compelling them to bring him home from the hospital due to financial constraints.
It was disclosed earlier by Orji that Muonagor had valiantly battled diabetes and stroke, the latter leaving him partially paralyzed in one leg. Last November, Muonagor's cousin, Hon. Tony Mounachi, took to social media to shed light on the actor's health struggles, sharing a poignant image of himself by Muonagor 's hospital bedside.

In his post, Hon. Tony Mounachi detailed the actor's ongoing fight against kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. Despite managing his diabetes for years, Muonagor's condition required him to undergo weekly dialysis treatments at the time of the post. Additionally, he was undergoing physiotherapy and other necessary medical interventions.
The passing of Muonagor adds to the sorrowful tally of Nollywood icons lost this month, including the notable demise of John 'Mr. Ibu' Okafor on March 2, following a prolonged illness that ultimately resulted in the amputation of his leg.
