December 20, 2022 Tobi Amusan Ranked Fifth Best Female Athlete For 2022

Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, has been named the fifth greatest female athlete in 2022 by World Athletics.

Using athletics scoring systems, the World Athletics graded each athlete based on the points they earned from their efforts over the season.

The 25-year-old hurdler had a fantastic year, becoming the first Nigerian world champion in an athletics event when she won the gold medal at the 2022 World Championships 100m hurdles, setting the current world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinal and 12.06 seconds in the final.

She also won gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham before retaining her Diamond League Trophy in Zurich with a meet record time of 12.29 seconds. Gail Devers, an American legend, held the previous record, which lasted for 22 years.

The World Athletics Federation just confirmed Amusan’s women’s world 100m hurdles record, which she achieved during the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, USA.

Amusan was also included to the Women’s World Athlete of the Year Award shortlist of five candidates.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica leads the list, followed by Sharicka Jackson of Jamaica. Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela is third, with Sydney McLaughlin of the United States in fourth.
