July 5, 2023 Tinubu and Shettima Submit 18 Exhibits to Counter Obi’s Petition at Tribunal

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima appeared before the Presidential Election Petition Court on Wednesday, presenting 18 exhibits to counter the petition filed by the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi.

The exhibits were submitted to refute allegations regarding their qualifications to run in the 2023 presidential election.

Shettima also submitted his letter of withdrawal from the Borno South Senatorial race as part of the evidence.

Among the documents presented was a copy of the Labour Party membership register for Anambra State, which aimed to establish that Peter Obi was not a registered member of the party.

The exhibits were tendered through their lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, along with a letter from the Labour Party dated April 25, 2022, which forwarded the membership register to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In their response to the petition, Tinubu and Shettima argued that Obi was ineligible to participate in the presidential election since he was not a member of the party at the time.

Although counsel to the petitioners, Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, objected to the admissibility of the documents, the court admitted them and marked them as exhibits.

Meanwhile, the defense has been stepped down for calling witnesses.
