Europe Beat United States To Retain Solheim Cup

Debutant Leona Maguire starred as Europe retained the Solheim Cup with a hard-fought 15-13 victory over the United States in Ohio.

Maguire won her singles match on Sunday to complete an unbeaten week in which she collected four and a half points from her five matches - a record for a rookie - and set the tone for a thrilling final day.

Fellow rookie Matilda Castren holed a nerveless eight-foot putt to win her match on the 18th green and claim Europe's 14th point - the one that meant they would at least retain the Solheim Cup - before Emily Pedersen made sure of the victory by winning the last match on the 18th.

"It's just crazy, crazy," said Castren. "I can't believe I made that putt."

It sparked an outpouring of joy among the Europeans, who were considered rank outsiders in the build-up, having won just once previously in the US, but have now won four of the past six editions of the biennial event.

United States Warns Citizens Of Increased Traffic Robberies, Crime In Lagos

Security personnel have been overwhelmed in densely populated Lagos.

The security alert notes that there has been "a notable increase in crime in Lagos. Reports of robberies/smash-and-grabs on the roads by armed men have increased significantly on both Ikoyi and Victoria Island.

"Typically, men on a motorcycle will follow a vehicle until it stops at a traffic light or intersection then approach the vehicle, present a weapon, and rob the occupants.

"Although most of these incidents happen at night, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos has received reports of robberies taking place during daylight hours."

Among other precautions, the embassy has asked U.S citizens in Lagos to keep a low profile, keep vehicle doors locked and windows rolled up at all times while driving--especially in traffic jams or at traffic lights, avoid driving alone at night, not to stop to help strangers on the road, ensure that valuables such as cash, laptops, phones, cameras, bags, etc. are kept out of sight, review and alter travel routes and times to reduce predictability, and to park vehicle in areas that are well lit.

Densely populated Lagos is experiencing heightened insecurity in the highbrow, moneyed Island neighborhoods and on the mainland suburbs.

Traffic robberies are commonplace on poorly lit, pothole-riddled roads at night time in a typically chaotic city.

During the day, street urchins and miscreants who are popularly referred to as 'Area Boys', take advantage of a perennial bedlam in the city to fleece motorists of cash and gadgets at gunpoint, and constitute a menace all year long as traffic snarls in sizzling temperatures.

Piers Morgan Is Steps Down From The “Good Morning Britain” Show

Piers Morgan has resigned from his role as host of “Good Morning Britain“, ITV confirms.

The media company said in a statement, “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

ITV announced after Ofcom revealed it was looking into the comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, after getting 41,000 complaints. An Ofcom spokesperson said: “We have launched an investigation into Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain under our harm and offence rules.”

In their interview, Prince Harry and Meghan, who are now living in the United States, revealed a variety of details, including an accusation that a member of the royal family, made a racist remark about their son, Archie. Meghan opened up about her mental health during the interview, telling Oprah Winfrey she had suicidal thoughts and begged to go somewhere for treatment but was told it would not look positive by one of the most senior Royal officials.

Morgan, though, said he “didn’t believe a word” of it on Monday’s “Good Morning Britain”.

Morgan also stormed off the set of ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Tuesday after a spat with co-host Alex Beresford over Oprah’s interview with Meghan and Prince Harry.

Alex Beresford defended the couple, saying that Morgan was to blame; “I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her.

Morgan then stood up and said: “OK, I’m done with this” and walked off set, saying: “Sorry, no… sorry, can’t do this…” as he stormed off set as Beresford called his actions “diabolical behaviour”.
