APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Says Former President Obasanjo Is Not Worthy To Recommend Presidential Candidate To Nigerians

Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), fired back yesterday at former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying the ex-president was not competent to suggest or support anybody as President of Nigeria due to his failings.

The APC flagbearer said yesterday at the APC Presidential Campaign rally held at the University of Benin Sports Complex, Ugbowo Campus, Benin, that Obasanjo failed to develop the country when he had the opportunity, instead fighting his then vice president, Atiku Abubakar, while accusing each other of spending the country’s money for their personal comfort.

The former Lagos Governor was replying to Obasanjo’s new year’s letter, in which he backed Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, and stated Tinubu and the PDP presidential candidate were unfit to lead the nation at this time.

Court To Hear ‘Certificate Forgery’ Suit Against Tinubu Next Month

According to the plaintiffs, Tinubu declined to include any information about his basic and secondary schools in the paperwork he submitted to INEC.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has set September 7 for the hearing of a case asking for Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, to be disqualified from running in the 2023 election.

The four APC plaintiffs are asking the court to declare Tinubu ineligible to run for president because they claim he provided the Independent National Electoral Commission with fake information (INEC).

The plaintiffs alleged that Tinubu fraudulently swore to an affidavit in 1999 in which he claimed to have attended St. Paul Aroloya Children Home School, Ibadan, from 1958 to 1964, and Government College, Ibadan, from 1965 to 1968, and presented the same to INEC. The document was 33 paragraphs long.

They said that Tinubu declined to include any information about his basic and secondary schools in the paperwork he submitted to INEC.

The plaintiffs prayed the court to determine “Whether having regard to the provision of sections 1 (3); 4(1)and 2; 14(1),(2)(a), and ©and 42(1)(a)and (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the provision of section 29(5)of the Electoral Act, 2022 as enacted by the 4th defendant which modified the provision section 31(5) of the Electoral Act,2010(as amended) is not ultra vires the 4th Defendant and therefore unconstitutional, null, void and of no effect whatever”.

“Whether having regard to the decision of the supreme court in the case Modibbo Vs Usman (2020) 3 NWLR(PT.1712)470 and the provision of section 137(1)(j) the 3rd defendant has not presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the 1st defendant and thereby disqualified from participating in the forthcoming 2023 presidential general election.”

The plaintiffs are also asking for “a declaration that the 3rd defendant (Tinubu) has presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the purpose of seeking to be elected into the office of president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“A declaration that the 3rd defendant stands disqualified from participating in the 2023 presidential election as a candidate of the 2nd defendant has presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the purpose of seeking to be elected into the office of the president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“An order disqualifying the 3rd Defendant from contesting or participating in the forthcoming 2023 presidential general election as a candidate of the 2nd defendant.

However, Tinubu was given replacement service when the judge, Ahmed Mohammed, approved an ex parte application.

According to TheCable, the judge reportedly issued the ruling after plaintiffs' attorney Goddy Uche informed the court that substituted service was now required because all efforts to serve the presidential candidate had failed.

The matter was postponed by the court until a hearing on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

EFCC Chairman Bawa Says Tinubu Is Under Investigation

EFCC Chairman expresses disdain for media trial.

Questioned by ThisDay on why Tinubu hasn't been arrested for alleged corruption, Bawa said: "You asked me a question earlier about arresting people before investigation and now you are saying why didn't we arrest Tinubu?

"Investigation is ongoing. When you are investigating matters like this, they don't end in a day. Thousands of investigations are going on, on a daily basis."

Bawa added that the EFCC won't engage in media trial.

Tinubu has been accused of controlling the finances of Alpha Beta Consulting and for using the company to divert Lagos State funds.

In 2011, the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) tried and acquitted Tinubu for allegedly operating 10 foreign bank accounts during his spell as governor from 1999 to 2007.

Tinubu, 69, is believed to be interested in vying for the office of the president of Nigeria in 2023.

Tinubu caused quite a stir during the 2019 general elections when a bullion van reportedly laden with cash, made an entry into one of his luxury property on Bourdillon, in Ikoyi.
