FIFA Ranks Victor Osimhen World’s 18th Most Expensive Player

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, is the 18th most expensive player in the world.

In a report released by FIFA, which has records of transfers done in the last 10 years, Osimhen ranks 18th in the world after his €81m move from French Ligue 1 side Lille to Serie A side Napoli in August 2020.

The move also makes Osimhen the most expensive signing in Africa, eclipsing Ivoirian Nicolas Pepe’s €80m move to Arsenal from Lille a year earlier.

Brazilian forward Neymar is the world’s most expensive player, after moving from Barcelona to PSG for €222m in 2017. He is followed by Eden Hazard, who joined Real Madrid for a fee that could exceed €174m two years later.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles On Their Win & Qualification for AFCON 2022

Nigeria’s national football team, Super Eagles have made their way to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

The qualifying match held on Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, after about a decade since the last time the Super Eagles played in Lagos. At the end of the highly anticipated match, the national team won with a 3-0 score against the opposing team, Lesotho.

The first goal was scored by Victor Osimhen in the first half while Oghenekaro Etebo and Paul Onuachu came through with the second and third goals in the second half of the game, earning the three-time African champions an unbeaten record of six games to round off their Group L campaign.

Nigeria joins the list of teams who have now qualified for the next AFCON, alongside Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal, Sudan, Comoros, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Morocco and other, Africa News reports.

According to GOAL, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Cameroon, was initially set to begin on June 30 but was moved to January 2022 to end in February, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Super Eagles Slip To 36th In Latest World FIFA Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped one place from 35th to 36th position in the FIFA World Ranking for the month of February.

The three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners, however, remained unmoved in Africa as they retained their fifth position behind Senegal (20th in the world), Tunisia (26th in the world), AFCON holders Algeria lie in third place (31th in the world) while Morocco are fourth (33rd in the world).

The ranking, which was released Thursday, also had Benin Republic, Super Eagles opponents in next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers move up one spot from 83 to 82.

Lesotho, who battle the Eagles on March 30, are ranked 143rd in the latest ranking.

While Belgium remained top of the FIFA World Ranking while world champions France come in second.

Brazil, England, Portugal, Spain, Argentina Uruguay, Mexico and Italy complete the top 10 list in that order.

The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on April 8.

8 Players Get FIFA Clearance For Super Eagles Call-Up

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been given the heads up from FIFA for eight (8) players with dual nationality to switch allegiance to the Super Eagles.

Initially, just Six of the eight players who applied for a switch have been given the go ahead by FIFA but the other two players have now been granted permission for the transition.

Fulham’s forward ADEMOLA LOOKMAN tops the list, while the other names include; Hertha BSC’s, JORDAN TORUNAIGHA, NATHAN TELLA of Southampton, Fulham’s TOSIN ADARABIOYO, OVIE EJARIA of Reading, NONI MADUEKE, SHEYI OJO and IKE UGBO of PSV, Cardiff City and Cercle Brugge respectively.

All names have forwarded been forwarded to Super Eagles head coach GERNOT ROHR who will further determine which one of the players gets a call-up to the national team.
