APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Says Former President Obasanjo Is Not Worthy To Recommend Presidential Candidate To Nigerians

Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), fired back yesterday at former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying the ex-president was not competent to suggest or support anybody as President of Nigeria due to his failings.

The APC flagbearer said yesterday at the APC Presidential Campaign rally held at the University of Benin Sports Complex, Ugbowo Campus, Benin, that Obasanjo failed to develop the country when he had the opportunity, instead fighting his then vice president, Atiku Abubakar, while accusing each other of spending the country’s money for their personal comfort.

The former Lagos Governor was replying to Obasanjo’s new year’s letter, in which he backed Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, and stated Tinubu and the PDP presidential candidate were unfit to lead the nation at this time.

Obi Urges Supporters Ahead Of Next Year’s Election

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has urged his supporters to collect the money offered to them by opposition political parties and still vote for him.

Obi made the call at the Labour Party presidential rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to him, the money belongs to Nigeria but was “stolen” by those in government.

The former Anambra State Governor said he willbuild a society where everybody is secure, where a child of nobody will be able to become President of the country.

Obi also expressed his intention to unite Nigeria and move it from consumption to production.

He urged Nigerians to hold him accountable while promising to revive the country, the same way he had “revived dead companies” in the past.

National Assembly To Pass 2023 Budget After Christmas

There are strong indications that the National Assembly will pass the 2023 Appropriation Bill next week.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, both indicated earlier this week that the Federal Government budget would be passed on Thursday, when lawmakers were scheduled to leave for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Several lawmakers blamed the delay on the recent transmission of the 2022 Finance Bill and Supplementary Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly for consideration and passage.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), only transmitted the Finance Bill on Wednesday, while the supplementary budget was received by the legislature on Thursday.

With the development, there is uncertainty about the continuation of the January-December budget cycle, which was restored three years ago by the current 9th National Assembly.

Following the National Assembly’s approval and transmission of the budget to the Executive, the relevant ministries, particularly the Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, usually scrutinize the content before the president signs it into law, a process that can take weeks.

July 8, 2022 Sepp Blatter And Michel Platini: Former Heads Of Fifa And Uefa Cleared Of Corruption Charges By Swiss Court

Sepp Blatter And Michel Platini: Former Heads Of Fifa And Uefa Cleared Of Corruption Charges By Swiss Court

Former Fifa president Sepp Blatter and vice-president Michel Platini have both been found not guilty following their fraud trial.

The pair stood trial over a payment of 2m Swiss francs (£1.6m) made by Blatter to Platini in 2011.

Both men had denied wrongdoing and said the transfer was belated payment for Platini’s advisory work for Fifa.

Blatter, 86, and Platini, 67, were banned from football in 2015 and indicted last November.

Their 11-day trial over the 2011 payment took place at the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona, Switzerland and concluded on 22 June.

In his testimony, Blatter said he asked Platini to be his adviser when he was first appointed president of football’s world governing body in 1998.

He said former France captain Platini wanted 1m Swiss francs (£816,030) per year but Blatter told him Fifa could not afford that fee.

They instead settled on 300,000 Swiss francs (£244,809) per year, with the outstanding total to be paid at a later date.

Platini stopped working for Fifa in 2002 but did not pursue the payment until 2010, telling the court he had not needed the money at the time of his departure, when – according to Blatter – Fifa was in any case “broke”.

The Swiss Office of the Attorney General accused Blatter and Platini of “fraud, in the alternative of misappropriation, in the further alternative of criminal mismanagement as well as of forgery of a document”. Platini, who was also charged as an accomplice, said he felt the ban was a deliberate attempt to stop him from becoming Fifa president in 2015.
