Olusegun Obasanjo Express Worries Over Possible Population Explosion In The Country

Former President, OLUSEGUN OBASANJO has asked Nigerian leaders to begin to put in place measures to prepare against population explosion.

He said Nigeria's population is becoming a liability due to its improper management, stressing that except there is urgent intervention, then the nation may be declared the third most populous nation in the world.

The former president stated this in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during a mentoring session with students of some selected schools across the country tagged "raising the next wave of innovative leaders through entrepreneurship."

According to him, population management must come to the fore, especially in the face of the geometric population explosion without a corresponding socio-economic development.

Two Feared Dead As Gas Explodes In Obasanjo Presidential Library

There was an explosion at the Olúségun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta on Thursday, leaving two persons feared dead.

The explosion occurred around 11 am at the Marcque event centre within the Presidential Library.

A source gathered that a routine cleaning was being done while one of the gas cylinders in the event centre exploded.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that some dead bodies have been taken by a rescue team that arrived at the scene shortly after the incident .

When our correspondent visited the library, it was observed that both gates at the entrance and the exit were under lock and key .

Attempts by our correspondent to gain access failed as the guards at the gates sent everyone that wanted to enter back.

This brings to fourth the number of explosions recorded in the last one week in the state.

On Tuesday, the Conference Hotel in Abeokuta owned by former Governor, Gbenga Daniel, was hit by explosion, killing two and injuring three others.

The two occurrences of gas explosion last week claimed the lives of an infant and four others.

Last Wednesday, three persons, including an infant were burnt to death in a gas explosion that occurred in Oke-Egunyan, along NTA Road in Abeokuta when a technician was topping up the gas of faulty refrigerator.

Barely 24 hours after the incident, another gas explosion occurred on Mercy Road, Panseke, Abeokuta where a technician, Sanya Shonde was injured which later led to the amputation of his leg.

Obasanjo Says ‘Bad Blood’ Is The Reason MKO Abiola Didn’t Become President

Former President, OLUSEGUN OBASANJO says 'bad blood' is the reason for the annulment of the June 12, 1993, Presidential election thought to have been won by late business mogul, MOSHOOD KASHIMAWO ABIOLA.

The former president who described the late acclaimed winner of the election, ABIOLA as his school mate at the Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, said the annulment robbed Egbaland, the rare opportunity to have three of its prominent sons, occupy the seat of the president, at different times.

OBASANJO spoke in Abeokuta, during his investiture as a Trustee of the Abeokuta Club, a sociocultural organization of Egba people of Ogun State.

The late business mogul was also awarded a posthumous Vice-Patron of the Club during its 46th President Party held at the secretariat in Abeokuta.

According to OBASANJO, ABIOLA richly deserved the award bestowed on him by the Abeokuta Club.
