Pastor, Three Others Caught With Human Skull In Ogun

A pastor from the Christ Liberty Evangelism Church in Rosco, Iyana Iyesi, Ota, Oyenekan Oluwaseyi, along with three others, were apprehended in the Saje Area of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

On Saturday, local authorities arrested Oluwaseyi, alongside Ibrahim Agbowewe (30), Suleiman Ogunbunmi (40), and Gafari Akinsanya (57), after discovering a human skull in their possession.

The suspects allegedly confessed to planning to use the skull for ceremonial purposes. Their suspicious behaviour and activities in the area had been reported by concerned public members, leading to the police's intervention.

During the operation, law enforcement officials also seized various items, including a large calabash, a black Toyota Camry car, and a ram, which were transported to the police station.

State Police Public Relations Officer SP Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrests and the suspects' confessions. She stated, "We arrested the four of them. They have confessed they wanted to use the head for blessings and money rituals. The investigations are ongoing to unravel more details about the incident."

The Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has scheduled the delivery of judgement for Saturday, September 30, in the case filed by Ladi Adebutu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against the election of Dapo Abiodun of the All-Progressives Congress (APC).

Following the adoption of final written addresses by both parties on September 4, the tribunal, led by Hamidu Kunaza, reserved judgment and assured parties of timely communication regarding the delivery date.

On Thursday, the tribunal formally notified the counsel of both the petitioners and the respondents, confirming the judgement date for Saturday.

The first petitioner, Afolabi Orekoya, Media Aide to Adebutu, confirmed the scheduled judgment delivery, stating, "Yes, it is true." Adebutu's petition seeks to have him declared the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Ogun State, citing alleged non-compliance with the electoral act."

In a statement released on September 26, 2023, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, announced the cancellation of the 63rd Independence Day celebration originally scheduled for Sunday, October 1, 2023.

This decision aligns with the Federal Government's directive to observe a subdued celebration this year.

The statement emphasised that the Federal Government's choice of a low-key celebration mirrors the prevailing sentiment in the nation.

It read, “Following the directive of the Federal Government that this year’s Independence Day Celebration should be low-key, the Ogun State Government has cancelled all arrangements regarding the anniversary on October 1st, 2023."

The government urged state citizens to spend the day solemnly praying for the country. It expressed a steadfast belief that the collective supplications of the people during this crucial time will be met with divine intervention.

Additionally, the State Government implored the understanding and cooperation of the state's residents in observing this low-key independence anniversary with the optimistic outlook that brighter days lie ahead.

IGP Orders Swift Operation To Curb Ogun Cult Killings

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered swift operations to be carried out to curb the unwarranted killings caused by cult clashes in Shagamu, Ogun State.

This was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a terse statement Monday on X, formerly Twitter.

He said the Force will support the Ogun Command with resources where necessary, adding that the Command will speak on the incident as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the State Government has announced a restriction of movement from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily in Shagamu due to the ceaseless clashes by rival cult groups.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Lekan Adeniran, a copy of which was made available to reporters in Abeokuta.

The statement assured residents of the town of their security and property.
